Abstract

1472703 Hot gas engines MOTORENWERKE MANNHEIM AG 17 Jan 1975 [18 Jan 1974] 2223/75 Heading F1S A series of hot gas piston engines of various power ratings comprises a hot gas piston engine of a lower rating including a pair of in-line cylinders consisting of a cold cylinder and a hot cylinder and a hot gas piston engine of a higher rating including in-line double-acting cylinders, the spacing between any two adjacent cylinders of any engine of the series being the same for all engines of the series. Fig. 6 shows a single-acting engine with cold cylinders 1 and hot cylinders 2. This engine represents a trebling of the engine of Fig. 2 (not shown) which has only two cylinders. The double-acting engines are described with reference to Figs. 7-10 (not shown). It is stated that the heaters 7 with associated hot transfer ducts and the upper housing portions with regenerator 6 and coolers 5 are same as the corresponding parts of the single-acting engines described, but are turned through 90 degrees relative thereto. The engines have power output ratings in the ratio 1:2:3:4:6 and are constructed of components which are identical to each other throughout the series or are required in a small number only of variant forms. The engines may be horizontally arranged. United States Specifications 3808815 and 3829945 are referred to.
