Abstract

942,179. Rotary J.C. engines. DAIMLERBENZ A.G. Feb. 23, 1962 [Feb. 25, 1961], No. 7218/62. Heading F1F. The end faces of the piston 11 of a rotary internal combustion engine are sealed by sealing strips 14, located in grooves. Each strip comprises two bands 15 15<SP>1</SP> lying side by side, and having incisions 16 16<SP>1</SP> respectively (Fig. 2 which is a view taken at right angles to that of Fig. 1) to accommodate thermal expansion. The ends of the bands are formed with projecting shoulders 17 (Fig. 4) which extend into slots in cylindrical members 19, the thermal expansion forces being borne by the surfaces 20. The invention may also be applied to sealing strips such as 13 in the periphery of the piston.
