1471569 Vehicle headlamps WESTFALISCHE METALL INDUSTRIE KG HUECK & CO 25 Oct 1974 [12 Dec 1973] 46288/74 Heading F4R In a vehicle headlamp comprising a lamp glass or diffuser lens 2 sealed to a reflector 1, the interior of the headlamp is in communication with the exterior by means of a duct 9 which has a minimum transverse cross-section of 40 mm.<SP>2</SP> and which is formed without capillary passage for example with no internal dimension smaller than 2 mm. As shown in Fig. 1, the duct 9 may comprise an annular member 6 of U-shaped cross-section which is mounted on lugs 7 to surround the opening 3 in the reflector through which the bulb 4 is inserted, the open end of member 6 being sealed by packing 8 which also effects a seal with the rear of the reflector 1. Openings 15 and 16 are formed in the duct 9 by bending over into the duct crosssection the radially inner and outer walls 13, 14 respectively, with, preferably, the opening 15 between the duet and the interior of the headlamp disposed at the top part of the duct and the opening 16 to the exterior at the lowest part of the duet. This duct arrangement enables moisture to be condensed in the duet and to flow out through opening 16 while maintaining a free air access to the interior of the headlamp. In an alternative embodiment shown in Fig. 3, the rear metal cap 21 enclosing the inserted lamp 4, and forming a known arrangement, is nested within a concentric plastics cap 28 so dimensioned as to form a tubular duct 32 therebetween, with an opening 34 being provided in the inner cap 21 and an opening 33 in the outer cap 28. The electrical terminals for the lamp may be carried by the plastics outer cap 28.
