Abstract

1393446 Vehicle headlamps WESTFALISCHE METALL INDUSTRIE KG HUECK & CO 19 May 1972 [19 May 1971] 23585/72 Heading F4R A vehicle headlight is sealed by a removable rear cover cap 10 which has a peripheral shoulder 12 that seats on a mounting 4 which is integral with or secured to the headlamp reflector 1 and forms a rearwards extension of the reflector 1 at the aperture 3 therein through which the rear of bulb 7 projects, a portion of the cover cap 10 engaging with the mounting 4 or an adjacent headlamp element to releasably secure the cover in place. As shown the mounting 4 is cylindrical and surrounds an aperture 3 in the parabolic reflector 1 in which the bulb 7 extends and is bonded to the reflector, alternatively, Fig. 3 (not shown), the mounting 4 is formed integrally with the reflector. A flared collar 11 of the cap 10 has slanted apertures, Fig. 4, engaging pins 16 on mounting 4 to form a bayonet-type connection therebetween. Upon rotation of the cap 10 a sealing ring 14 is compressed between the end face 13 of the mounting and shoulder 12 of the cap, the apertures in the collar 11 having teeth 25 to prevent the cap from releasing itself. Collar 11 may be replaced by a number of peripherally distributed slotted tongues snapping into engagement with the pins 16. Contact elements 20 extend through cap base 19 to supply the bulb 7. The sealing ring 1 may be located in the cap by three noses, Fig. 6 (not shown) engaging in I-shaped apertures, Fig. 5 (not shown), in the collar 11.
