Abstract

1491379 Casting ingots GRANGES ENG AB 24 March 1975 [4 April 1974] 12156/75 Heading B3F In a method of casting ingots in which moulds 16 are advanced intermittently along a continuous path (e.g. as shown, a circle), molten metal is cast simultaneously into a plurality of moulds at a casting station and ingots are discharged from the moulds one at a time at a discharge station. In apparatus, as shown, a motor driven crane 28 drives a reciprocatable arm 29 to intermittently advance an annular table 10 supporting the moulds 16 in brackets 15. Two moulds are filled simultaneously from a ladle 24 and then the table 10 is advanced one mould spacing to introduce a solidified ingotcontaining mould 16 to the discharge station and remove one of the filled moulds from the casting station. Bars 22, 23 pivot the mould to tip the ingot on to a conveyer 18 and rollers 19. A further advancement introduces a second mould to the discharge station and also removes the second filled mould from the casting station to allow for further casting. Bars 20, 21 hold the moulds upright at the casting station. The time between advancements when no casting is carried out is sufficient only to allow a solidified ingot to leave the mould.
