Abstract

1449040 Ingot casting machines ITOH IRON & STEEL WORKS CO Ltd 26 Oct 1973 49878/73 Heading B3F Apparatus for casting ingots comprises a plurality of moulds 12 travelling around an endless track 14; a ladle 24; first and second means 32 and 68 respectively, for inverting the moulds, said first and second means being located downstream of the ladle and comprising a rotatable annular frame 44; and a table 72 for preparing the moulds for use in the next casting operation. There may be two endless tracks 14 and these may be formed of rails or rollers. When a mould is beneath the ladle 24 it is raised by a device 30 while it is being filled. After a solidified skin has formed on the surface of the metal as the result of pouring water or spraying compressed air to the mould inlet, the mould is inverted by the means 32 and is then oscillated while being moved to an extraction station 54 at which the ingot is removed from the mould. The ingot is then carried away by an elevator (60), a conveyer 58 and a turning device 62 to a table 66. After removal of the ingot the mould is restored to its original orientation by the means 68 and is returned to the casting position via a cooling device 70 and a table 72 at which the moulds are cleaned and repainted. Any molten metal which leaks from the ladle 24 is conveyed to a storage pot 28 by a shoot 26.
