Abstract
1,091,333. Rotary hydraulic motors and pumps. H. TEVES, E.A. TEVES and M. TAUSEND [trading as ALFRED TEVES MASCHINEN-UND ARMATUREN FABRIK KOMM GES]. Jan. 14, 1965 [Jan. 24, 1964], No. 1669/65. Heading F1F. A rotary hydraulic-machine of the outwardlysliding radial-vane type that is capable of operating as either a motor or a pump comprises a casing containing a rotor 9 carrying a plurality of vanes 8 that are pressed against a cam-ring 10 by springs 13 lodged in axial bores or chambers 20, said cam-ring being a part of said casing and situated between check-plates 5, 11 that together with end covers 1, 6 define annular inlet and outlet chambers 4, 17 for working fluid e. g. oil. In operation of the machine as a motor, two pumps 3a, 3b deliver oil to spaces or compartments 12 between the vanes through a conduit 2, the chamber 4 and reniform apertures 7 and, simultaneously, to the chambers 20 that are associated with unretracted vanes through a plurality of conduits 15 and bores 14 so as to press the said vanes against the camring. Oil is ejected from the compartments 12 into a reservoir 23 when the compartment comes into register with further reniform apertures 16 that are connected to the reservoir by the chamber 17 and a conduit 18 containing two-way valve 22, oil being simultaneously ejected from the chambers 20 associated with vanes undergoing retraction through a plurality of bores 25, conduits 19 and a non-return valve 21 in the conduit 18. When the valve 22 is reversed, the conduit 18 is closed and oil leaving the pump 3a flows directly into the reservoir 23, whereas oil leaving the pump 3b closes a non-return valve 24 to prevent oil entering the conduits 15 and produces sufficient pressure in the compartments 12 to effect retraction of every vane on the rotor against the action of the springs 13 as well as radial-acceleration forces acting on the vanes, thereby rendering the apertures 7, 16 in direct connection with one another and the rotor capable of rotating freely without production of useful torque. It is stated that such operation of the machine is desirable when the machine operates as a motor in the driving mechanism of a motor vehicle during periods when the vehicle is travelling down a long gradient, thereby obviating excessive rotor speeds. A pressure-relief valve 27 for the conduit 18 is connected to the reservoir. The valve 22 may be operated in response to pressure or speed changes. It is further stated that the vanes 8 may be replaced by balls.
