Abstract

1,223,578. Making boxes. ARENCO A.B. 3 Feb., 1969 [16 Feb., 1968], No. 5746/69. Heading B5D. A machine for folding box blanks 9 comprises a plurality of mandrels 11 each having a rectangular cross-section and suction means for holding blanks thereagainst. The mandrels 11 are carried and moved by a drive member 10 in a closed path of movement past blank feeding means and a plurality of blank folding stations. A blank is fed parallel to and on to the forward face of a mandrel which abuts the blank within a central area thereof and the suction means comprises holes in the forward face (Fig. 2, not shown). Suction holes may be provided in the rear faces of the mandrels. The box blanks are cut from a web 2, the length thereof being determined by the forward end of the web engaging a stop 8 on the drive member 10. The first folding station comprises a pair of folding rollers 27, 28 which fold the box blank about a mandrel such that two portions 31, 32 of the blank trail to the rear of the mandrel. These two portions 31, 32 are each folded about the mandrel by a flanged roller 29, 33, respectively (Fig. 7, not shown), and the overlapping edges thereof are secured as with adhesive.
