A filtering apparatus to trap ferrous particles in liquids comprises a casing 1 with a rotatable apertured partition 6, between an inlet 2 and outlet 4. Filter units are mounted over each aperture. A plate 28 is removed to give access to a filter unit which may be removed, by a handle 26, and cleaned. Hand or powered rotation of the partition 6, which is mounted on rollers 7, gives access to successive filter units. As described, magnetic filter units each comprise a cage of coaxial concentric soft-iron rings mounted in a non-magnetic sleeve 15, and surrounding one or more annular permanent magnets (not shown) and held between spider-shaped pole pieces 17, 18. Filter units 12, 13 are associated with an inner and an outer row of apertures in the partition 6.
