Abstract
1,237,087. Grinding. K. O. L. KLING. 25 Oct., 1968 [22 May, 1968], No. 50808/68. Heading B3D. A machine for grinding razor blades and chamfers on material in strip or band form, comprises a grinding disc 6, and a workpiece retainer 11 pivotally movable relative to the disc whereby arbitrary chamfer angles can be ground on the workpiece without requiring readjustment of the workpiece in the retainer. The machine includes a frame 1 in which a pair of yokes 2, 3 are slidably adjustable by a screw 10 and rotatably support the grinding disc 6 and a dresser roller 7. The disc 6 is driven by a belt on a pulley 30 and a belt on pulleys 33, 34 transmit drive to the roller. The workpiece retainer 11 is mounted on pivots 15 the axis of which passes through the periphery of the disc and can be retained in adjusted position by means (not shown). A slot 16 is formed in the retainer to permit continuous advancing movement of a band to be ground. A spring-pressed biasing strip 18 bears against the band during grinding. A member 19 senses the load on the strip during grinding and, through a worm 20 and wheel 21 and screw 10, controls the grinding pressure. Workpieces in the form of razor blades formed with aligned slots or grooves may be guided in the slot 16 by elements 26 which are rockable into the slots or grooves of the band during the passage of the band. The portion 9 of the screw 10 has about twice the pitch of the portion 8 so that during rotation of the screw, the dressing roller will be moved about twice the distance of the disc 6. The portions 8, 9 are telescopically adjustable to provide for relative arbitrary adjustment between the disc and roller.
