Abstract

1302791 Abrading MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 22 April 1970 [23 April 1969] 19375/70 Heading B3D Apparatus for grinding the surface, e.g. of a concrete building block 11, comprises a frame 12, a block conveyer 20, an abrading assembly 35, means 50 for urging the block 11 into contact with a moving abrading surface at a predetermined force, and means 60, 60a for guiding the block 11 through the abrading assembly 35. The block 11, supported on the belt 20, which is driven by an electric motor 24, passes below an abrasive belt on a backing drum 37, a support bed 51 below the belt 20 pivoting about a universal connection 52 against fluid pressure means 53, Fig. 5, to allow for varying block depth, with a pin 57 of the bed 51 sliding in a guide 58 to prevent transverse bed movement. Rollers (66), 66a, Figs. 3 (not shown), and 5, borne by downwardly spring-urged collars 64 of the guiding means 60, 60a, prevent movement of the block 11 relative to the belt 20.
