1412248 Hoisting workpieces in a treating chamber CARBORUNDUM CO 22 Dec 1972 [3 Jan 1972] 59494/72 Heading B8A [Also in Division B3] A workpiece 85 (Fig. 5) is connected to a coneshaped engaging member 57 rotatably supported on a cable 45 which extends from a winch 49 carried by a conveyer trolley 15 (Figs. 1, 2 and 4). Mounted rotationally on the trolley 15 is a member 79. The trolley 15 runs on rails 13 (Fig. 1) so as to convey the member 79 into an abrasive treating cabinet 11. The winch 49 is then actuated to wind up the cable 45 until the cone shape of the member 57 centres within a similar profile of the member 79. The members 57 and 79 also have surfaces which lock them together against relative rotational movement. Wedging between the conical members is prevented by providing a pad 81 of polyurethane. In the cabinet 11, an endless member 19 engages a gear 43 on a tubular extension 27 of the member 57. The arrangement enables rotation of the workpiece to take place without rotation of the cable 45. Means is provided (Figs. 7, not shown), to stop the winch when the members 57 and 79 interengage. In a modification, the members 57 and 79 are coupled for rotation by an elongated key so as to permit combined rotation and vertical movement of the workpiece. In another modification, the conveyer is replaced by a winch (Fig. 8, not shown).
