955,779. Cables. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. Sept. 7, 1962 [Sept. 8, 1961], No. 34295/62. Heading H1A. A telephone cable core is formed from twisted bunches e.g. B and B2, of unit groups of conductors, each bunch consisting of five unit groups, with the length of lay of the unit groups in each bunch greater than the length of lay of the bunches. The unit group consists of three conductors a, b and c insulated with synthetic material, two wires for the speech circuit and the other as a signal wire. Each bunch may be wound with a differently coloured insulating strip such as 11 for identification. A method of manufacturing a cable (Fig. 4, not shown) is described in which individual bunches are taken from respective feed drums then stranded to give periodically differing lengths of lay by variably rotatable perforated discs before passing through spinning heads applying identifying coloured strips and on to a stranding and forming die whereafter the cable core is taped and insulated.
