Пробу испытуемого масла делят на две части. Параметры трения выбраны постоянными (например, нагрузка 13Н, скорость скольжения 0,68 м/с, время испытания 2 часа, температура масла 80°С). Оставшуюся первую часть пробы окисленного масла в стеклянном стакане доливают товарным (неокисленным) маслом до принятой постоянной массы 100 г и продолжают испытания по той же технологии. При достижении значения коэффициента Кп, равного приблизительно 0,8 единиц, испытания испытуемого масла заканчивают. Вторую часть пробы товарного смазочного масла испытывают на температурную стойкость, делят на равные части, одну из которых массой, например, 50±0,1 г заливают в термостойкий стеклянный стакан, и устанавливают температуру испытания, например, 140°С на специально разработанном приборе без доступа воздуха при атмосферном давлении с конденсацией паров и отвода конденсата, затем включают нагрев и при наборе заданной температуры регистрируют время начала испытания.
