Kompozicija katalizatora i njegova upotreba za oksidaciju etana ili etilena u sirćetnu kiselinu, koja se sastoji od kombinacije sa kiseonikom elemenata molibdena, vanadijuma, niobijuma i zlata bez paladijuma prema empirijskoj formuli Moa, WbAucVdNbeYf(I), gde Y je jedan ili više elemenata izabranih iz grupe koju čine Cr, Mn, Ta, Ti, B, Al, Ga, In, Pt, Zn, Cd, Bi, Ce, Co, Rh, Ir, Cu, Ag, Fe, Ru, Os, K, Rb, Cs, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Zr, Hf, Ni, P, Pb, Sb, Si, Sn, Tl, U, Re, Te i La; i a, b, c, d, e i f predstavljaju odnose gram atoma elemenata kao što su: 0-5.
