Dotychczas dokonywano tego za po¬ moca powlekania powierzchni róznymi srodkami, zmieniajacymi barwe wyrobu, po uprzednim udarowym zmiekczeniu powierzchni, zwlaszcza w jej ostrych krawedziach.Wyroby kamienne i zelazne, osadzone w bu¬ dowli, podlegaja przez dlugi okres czasu bardzo powolnemu procesowi scierania przez pyly i bez¬ posrednie tarcie dorazne. Po kilkudziesieciu la¬ tach trwania tego procesu powierzchnia wyrobu nabiera charakterystycznego wygladu zewnetrz¬ nego przez zatarcie sie ostrych krawedzi, który w polaczeniu z wyplowieniem barwy stanowi istotna ceche patyny.Spoiób mechanicznego patynowania wyrobów kamiennych i zelaznych wedlug wynalazku po¬ lega na skróceniu procesu scierania powierzchni z kilkudziesieciu czy kilkuset lat do kilkunastu minut, a to za pomoca strumienia piasku cier¬ nego, skierowanego pod cisnieniem na te po¬ wierzchnie.Po spatynowaniu mechanicznym mozna na powierzchnie wyrobu nalozyc powloke materialu konserwujacego powierzchnie.
