CARACTERIZADO POR : UN PROCEDIMIENTO EN EL CUAL EL SO3 SE OBTIENE CATALITICAMENTE POR TRANSFORMACION DE SO2 CON OXIGENO MOLECULAR, CARACTERIZADO POR QUE SE ALIMENTA A UNA ETAPA DE PRECONTACTO UN GAS QUE CONTIENE 13% A 50% EN VOLUMEN DE SO2 Y UNA RELACION DE O2/SO2 DE AL MENOS 1:2; EL GAS Y EL OXIGENO SE HACEN PASAR A TRAVES DE UN LECHO DE UN CATALIZADOR GRANULAR, EN DICHA ETAPA DE PRECONTACTO; EL PRECONTACTO ESTA CONSTITUIDO POR UN SOPORTE POROSO AL CUAL ESTA UNIDO UN COMPONENTE ACTIVO, EL CUAL CONTIENE 10% A 80% EN PESO DE HIERRO, EL SOPORTE TIENE UNA SUPERFICIE BET DE 100m²/g a 2000m²/g, EL CUAL ESTA CONSTITUIDO POR 90% A 100% DE UNA ZEOLITA Y UN CONTENIDO DE AL MENOS 90% EN PESO DE SiO2. LA RELACION EN PESO SOPORTE:COMPONENTE ACTIVO EN EL INTERVALO DE 1:1 A 100:1. EN LA ETAPA DE PRECONTACTO SE TRANSFORMA DEL 20% A 80% DEL SO2 ALIMENTADO. LA MEZCLA DE GASES QUE SE EXTRAE DE LA ETAPA DE PRECONTACTO SE ENFRIA HASTA UN RANGO DE 50°C A 300°C Y SE CONDUCE A UN ABSORBEDOR, EN EL CUAL LA MEZCLA DE GASES SE PONE EN CONTACTO DIRECTO CON ACIDO SULFURICO QUE CONTIENE AGUA, LA MEZCLA DE GASES QUE SE OBTIENE DEL ABSORBEDOR CONTIENE DE 10% A 30% EN VOLUMEN DE SO2 QUE SE CONDUCE A UNA SEGUNDA ETAPA DE OXIDACION, DE LA CUAL EL SO3 FORMADO SE SIGUE PROCESANDO HASTA ACIDO SULFURICO
