Description

New Zealand Paient Spedficaiion for Paient Number £05084

2050 84

Patents Font No. 5

NEW ZEALAND

PATENTS ACT 195 3

COMPLETE SPECIFICATION "A HAIR RESTORER"

I fVffr HANS THOMM of German nationality of Wiesenweg 6, 54 39 Hohn, West Germany hereby declare the invention, for which I/we pray that a patent may be granted to me/trs, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement

(followed by page I A.\

2 0 50 84

-1ft-

"A HAIR RESTORER"

1 The present invention relates to a hair restorer.

Hitherto hair restorers of widely differing types of composition have been proposed. However, none of these agents effects satisfactory promotion of haired 5 growth. The opinion therefore prevails in medical circles that effective hair restorers do not exist at all.

It is an object of the invention to provide an agent, by means of which hair-growth can be promoted on the human scalp and, where necessary, re-started. Q 10 Accordingly the invention consists in a hair restorer which contains goat's butter and gland material obtained from testes and placenta.

For reasons of easy accessibility, inter alia, the gland material is derived preferably from cattle. 15 However, testes and placenta of other mammals cam also be used.

A suitable gland material is a product obtained by homogenising and freeze-drying fresh glands. Preferably, so-called aqueous extracts, obtained from 20 testes and placenta, are used, as are contained, for example, in the fresh gland ointment, commercially obtainable under the trade name "tactu-nerval" from W. Feldhoff & Company, 4401 Senden, Federal Republic of Germany.

25 Preferably, the placenta material is free from oestrogen.

In addition, the hair restorer according to the invention may also contain birch-tree sap. Furthermore, ^ the addition of essential oils, for example Oleum Juni-

30 peri (juniper oil), Oleum Lauri (laurel oil), Oleum

2 05084

-2-

o

o

1 Rosmarini (rosemary oil), Oleum Terebinthinae (terebinth oil), Oleum Thymi (oil of thyme) and the like, is alBO useful.

The hair restorer according to the invention is 5 preferably provided in the form of an ointment or tincture. The bases customary in pharmaceutical practice are used for this purpose. The proportion of such a base can range from about 20 to 60 percent by weight.

The remaining components are contained preferably 10 in the following amounts: goat's butter: 2 to 15 and,

particularly, 5 to 10 percent by weight; testes material: 2 to 10 and, particularly, 5 to 7 percent by weight; placenta material: 0.5 to 5 and, particularly, 1 to 3 percent by weight; birch-tree sap: 0 to 30 and, partic-15 ularly, 10 to 20 percent by weight; ethanol: 0 to 40 and, particularly, 20 to 30 percent by weight; and essential oils: 0 to 10 and, particularly, 2 to 6 percent by weight.

Moreover, the hair restorer according to the 20 invention can contain, in addition, components customary in pharmacological practice, for example diluents and preservatives. A suitable preservative is methyl para-hydroxybenzoate.

Application of the hair restorer according to 25 the invention is effected appropriately as follows: The scalp is first massaged dry with a hair-brush for about 15 minutes. Subsequently, the preparation is thinly applied to the scalp and rubbed in with the finger tips for about 2 to 5 minutes. The scalp shall not be 30 washed during the following 3 hours. This procedure

o

205084

-3-

1 takes place once daily.

The treatment period is generally 4 weeks. Subsequently, a supportive continuing treatment may be carried out once to twice weekly (maximum) for half a ^ 5 year.

The invention is illustrated by reference to the following Example and explanatory experiments:

Example

An ointment is prepared from the following 10 components:

Component g goat's butter 7.5

15 aqueous testes extract (cattle, 1.14:1 6

aqueous oestrogen-free placenta extract (cattle), 1.15:1 2

birch-tree sap 15

ethanol 30

essential oils 3.5

ointment (tincture) base balance to 100

0

20

Experiments 1st test subject 25 A 17 year old male test subject, who had been bald for 1 year, was treated daily with the hair restorer according to the invention. After 10 days, the first indications of fresh hair covering were noticeable; after about 10 weeks, the whole of the 30 scalp was covered with hair of 2.5 to 3 cm length.

2050

-4-

1 2nd test subject

A thirty year old man with a partially bald head accepted the treatment when even the remaining hair at the sides began to fall out. After 4 days, O 5 the hair loss stopped and, after 10 days, fresh hair was growing.

3rd test subject

A 32 year old male experimental subject with a partially bald head was treated like the 2nd test ' 10 subject. This met with the same success as in Case 2.

4th test subject

In the case of a 36 year old man with a partially bald head, fresh hair growth with a hair length of 1.5 to 2 cm showed up after 30 days' treatment. 1 5 5th test subject a 27 year old man with a partially bald head, after 4 weeks' treatment, regained his complete hair covering with a hair length of up to 2 cm.

6th test subject 20 a 50 year old woman with major bald patches was treated with the agent according to the invention. After a 9-day treatment period, the first indications of hair growth appeared. After 4 weeks, the hair on the head had been regenerated completely. 25 7th test subject

In the case of a 55 year old woman, the hair on the head had completely fallen out in places. The identical treatment as in the case of the 6th test subject was carried out, the same success being 30 achieved.

e
