Abstract

I et pakkenett for elektronisk overføring av datapakker fra en endestasjon (1) til en andre endesta- sjon (1) finnes det på konvensjonell måte en flerhet av svitsjeenheter (3). Hver endestasjon (1) er for- bundet med en svitsjeenhet (3) og svitsjeenhetene (3) utfører overføring av datapakker langs en eta- blert forbindelse. Svitsjeenhetene (3) er forsynt med svitsjeporter (5) på alle sine forbindelser. I disse svitsjeporter blir det utført en erstatning av merkelapper for datapakkene, både for datapakker som ankommer til en svitsjeenhet (3), og for datapakker som videreføres fra en svitsjeenhet (3). Dette blir utført for å unngå at datapakkene som tilhører for- skjellige forbindelser, vil ha den samme merkelapp, og også for å gi distribuerte tjenester i datanet- tet. Datapakke-merkelappene er konstruert fra et VPI-felt og et VCI-felt og for datapakker som ankom- mer direkte fra eller sendes direkte til en endesta- sjon, også fra GFC-felt. Ved erstatningen av merke- lappen for en datapakke som ankommer til en svitsje- enhet, vil det i den assosierte svitsjeport (5) bli utført et første tabelloppslag ved hjelp av innholdet i VPI-feltet for datapakken. Resultatet av tabelloppslaget gir en direkte informasjon om data- pakken tilhører en forbindelse med en merkelapp omfattende bare et VPI-felt (VP-forbindelse), og deretter blir innholdet erstattet med en opptegning som oppnås ved tabelloppslaget. Dersom datapakken har både et VPI og et VCI-felt (VC-forbindelse), blir tilhørende VPI og VCI-felter erstattet med nye merkelappdeler som oppnås fra et andre tabelloppslag.
