Abstract

Fremgangsmåten gjør det mulig å konstruere arkitekturen til sedimentære lag som er avsatt på en topografisk overflate som et resultat av passasjen av sedimentære strømmer, ved bruk av cellulære automata. Den topografiske overflate diskretiseres i et sett av cellulære automata. Deretter, for hver strøm og hver automaton, bestemmes en stasjonære fysikalsk tilstand som er et resultat av en iterativ prosess hvor mellomliggende fysikalske tilstander konstrueres av material- og energi-utvekslinger mellom automataene. Disse automata blir således konstruert slik at de er representative for virkningen av de sedimentære strømmer på konstruksjonen av den sedimentære arkitektur. Et sett av geologiske variabler som gjør at arkitekturen av de sedimentære lag kan rekonstrueres deduseres således fra disse stasjonære fysikalske tilstander.
