Description
Oppfinnelsen vedrører fremstilling av formede hydrogelartikler inkludert myke kontaktlinser, og særlig en fremgangsmåte for direkte forming av slike artikler ved å anvende visse borsyreestere som vann-fortrengende fortynningsmidler.
Inntil nylig har myke kontaktlinser av hydrogeltypen blitt fremstilt enten ved dreiekutting eller spinnstøping. I dreiekuttingsmetoden blir et linseråemne eller knapp av vesentlig vannfri hydrofil polymer (xerogel), mekanisk kuttet og polert til en linseform på en fin dreier, og som deretter bringes i kontakt med vann eller saltvann for å hydratisere polymeren og forme de ønskede hydrogellinsene. De mekaniske trinnene som blir utnyttet i dreiekuttingsoperasjonen er tilsvarende til de som blir anvendt i fremstilling av harde kontaktlinser, med unntakelse at det må være toleranse for svelling av linsen under hydrering av polymeren.
I spinnstøpingsmetoden blir en liten mengde av hydrofil monomerblanding plassert i en konkav, optisk polert form, og formen blir rotert mens monomerene blir polymerisert til å danne en xerogellinse. De to optiske overflatene til linsen blir formet samtidig under polymerisasjonen, den ytre overflaten blir laget ved den konkave formoverflaten og den indre overflaten får form ved samlet reaksjon av sentrifugal-kraften som blir skapt ved å rotere formen og overflate-spenningen i polymeri sasjonsblandingen. Linsen som blir produsert slik, bringes i kontakt med vann eller saltvann for å hydrere polymeren og danne en hydrogellinse, som i til-fellet med den dreiekuttede linsen.
Senere har det blitt utviklet en forbedret fremgangsmåte for fremstilling av hydrogelkontaktlinser, og denne metoden er ikke bare mer økonomisk enn både dreiekuttemetoden eller spinnstøpingsmetoden, men den har den fordel at den muliggjør en mer presis kontroll av sluttformen til den hydratiserte linsen. Denne metoden omfatter direkte støping av en monomerblanding der nevnte blanding blir oppløst i et ikke-vandig, vann-fortrengende løsningsmiddel, blandingen blir plassert i en støpeform med form som den endelig ønskede hydrogellinsen (dvs. vann-svellet), og monomer/løsningsmiddelblandingen blir utsatt for forhold der monomeren(e) polymeriserer, og dermed produserer en polymer/løsningsmiddelblanding i formen til den endelig ønskede hydrogellinsen (polymerisasjon må blir gjennomført i et ikke-vandig medium fordi vann hemmer polymerisasjonsreaksjonen). Etter polymerisasjonen er fullstendig, blir løsningsmidlet erstattet med vann for å fremstille en hydratisert linse med sluttstørrelse og form som er ganske lik til størrelsen og formen til den opp-rinnelige formede polymer/løsningsmiddelartikkelen. Slik direkte formstøping av hydrogelkontaktlinser blir beskrevet i Larsen, US-patent nr. 4 495 313 og i Larsen et al., US-patent nr. 4 680 336.
I Larsen-patentet er de vann-fortrengende fortynningsmidlene som blir anvendt borsyreestere av flerverdige alkoholer, der de flerverdige alkoholene har tre eller flere hydroksylgrupper. Alternativt kan de flerverdige alkoholene som blir anvendt, være en blanding av flerverdig alkohol som har tre eller flere hydroksylgrupper og en toverdig alkohol. Se f.eks. beskrivelsen i kolonne 3, linje 60 og videre, og kolonne 4, linje 18-22.
Essensen i beskrivelsen i Larsen-patentet er at den flerverdige alkoholen som blir anvendt til å fremstille boratesterne for anvendelse i direktestøpingsprosessen av hydrogelkontaktlinser, må ha tre eller flere hydroksylgrupper. Selv om den beskriver at toverdige alkoholer kan bli anvendt i blanding med tri- og høyere polyoler, er tri- og høyere polyoler vesentlige bestanddeler.
Denne oppfinnelsen er basert på oppdagelsen at esterne av borsyre og visse toverdige alkoholer (mer definert under) kan bli anvendt som vann-fortrengende fortynningsmidler i en direkte støpingsprosess for å lage formede hydrogelartikler, slik som myke kontaktlinser fra polymerblandinger som inneholder som hovedmonomer en eller flere hydrofile (met)-akrylater, slik som 2-hydroksietylmetakrylat ("HEMA"). Oppfinnelsen frembringer bearbeidingsfordeler i den direkte støpingsprosessen for fremstilling av formede hydrogelartikler, inkludert øket avstøpingsevne (dvs. evne til å åpne støpeformen etter polymeriseringen med mindre krefter), som resulterer i økonomiske fordeler, slik som besparelse av arbeidskostnader, og en betydelig økning i utbytte pga. reduserte andeler overflatedefekter i de formstøpte artiklene som vil forårsake at de blir forkastet. Det er antatt at den forøkede avstøpingsevnen og betydelig forbedring i utbytte, er relatert til det faktum at borsyreestere av dioler som blir benyttet i denne oppfinnelsen har en lavere overflate-spenning enn de foretrukne esterne i Larsen-patentet, nr. 4 495 313, som reduserer adhesjonen av polymer/løsnings-middelblandingen til støpeformen.
En ytterligere betydelig fordel som vedrører den direkte støpingsprosessen med de vann-fortrengende esterne frembragt i denne oppfinnelsen, er en øket evne til å benytte hydrofobe monomerer (slik som UV-absorberende monomerer) i polymerisasjonsblandingen. Når man prøver å inkludere hydrofobe monomerer slik som UV-absorberende monomerer i en monomer/fortynningsblanding ved å anvende som fortynningsmiddel de foretrukne esterne i nevnte Larsen-patent, er det funnet at de hydrofobe monomerene ofte ikke er løselige i blandingen.
Økende medisinsk bevissthet på den ugunstige påvirkning av ultrafiolett stråling ("UV") på øynene har ført til innføring av briller, beskyttelsesbriller, kontaktlinser og intraokulære linser som inneholder et anordning for å absorbere UV-stråling. Med hensyn på både kontaktlinser og intraokulære linser laget fra polymerer (vanligvis akryliske polymerer), er den foretrukne anordning som vedrører UV-absorbsjonsevne,
å lage linsen fra en kopolymer som inneholder en kopoly-merisert UV-absorberende monomer. Slike monomerer er f.eks. beskrevet i Beard et al., US-patent nr. 4 528 311 og Dunks et al., US-patent nr. 4 716 234. Det vil være ønskelig å gi videre de UV-absorberende egenskapene til kontaktlinser som blir laget i den direkte støpeformingsprosessen, ved å inkludere UV-absorberende monomerer i monomer/fortynnings-blandingen. Denne oppfinnelsen gjør dette ønskede praktisk.
Foreliggende oppfinnelse angår således en fremgangsmåte for fremstilling av formede hydrogelartikler, fortrinnsvis kontaktlinser som innbefatter følgende trinn: (1) forme eller støpe en polymerisasjonsblanding som omfatter: en monomerblanding som omfatter en hovedandel av en hydrofil (met)akrylatestermonomer, en tverr-bindende monomer, eventuelt en hydrofob monomer og et fortynningsmiddel for å fremstille en formet gel av kopolymer av nevnte monomerer og nevnte fortynningsmiddel, og (2) deretter erstatte nevnte fortynningsmiddel med vann, der f ortynningsmidlet er kjennetegnet ved at det er et vannfortrengbart fortynningsmiddel, hvor nevnte fortynningsmiddel har en viskositet på minst 100 MPa s ved 30 ° C,
kjennetegnet ved at man som nevnte fortynningsmiddel i det vesentlige anvender en borsyreester av visse toverdige alkoholer, hvor nevnte toverdige alkoholer har Hansen polar-(Sp) og Hansen hydrogenbinding- (Sft) konesjonsparametre som faller innenfor området av en sirkel som er definert ved å ha et senter ved Sn = 20,5, Sp = 13 og en radius på 8,5.
Larsen-patentet (nr. 4 495 313) sitert ovenfor, er det mest relevante innenfor den kjente teknikken.
Patentet til Larsen et al., nr. 4 680 336, beskriver anvendelse av en direkte formstøpingsprosess for å lage hydrogelartikler med visse fortynningsmidler, som blir utvalgt på basis av deres viskositet og deres Hansen polar-og hydrogenbindingskohesjonsparametere.
Andre US-patenter som vedrører direkte formstøping av hydrogelartikler, slik som myke kontaktlinser, omfatter Larsen, US-patent nr. 4 565 348 og 4 640 489, Ohkada et al., nr. 4 347 198, Shepard, nr. 4 208 364 og Wichterle et al., Re. 27 401 (nr. 3 220 960).
Oppfinnelsen blir forklart ytterligere ved hjelp av teg-ninger der: Fig. 1 er et plott av Hansen-kohesjonsparametrene, S^ og Sp, for flere toverdige alkoholer; Fig. 2 er en kalibreringsgraf som blir anvendt i bestemmelse av Young's modulus av myke kontaktlinser; og Fig. 3 er et sideriss, delvis skjematisk av testgjenstanden og monteringen som blir anvendt til å bestemme kreftene som er nødvendig for å åpne støpeformene der kontaktlinsene som omfatter polymer/fortynningsblandingene blir fremstilt.
Borsyreesterne som blir anvendt i oppfinnelsen som vann-fortrengende fortynningsmidler i direktestøping av hydogel-artikler, omfatter boratestere av visse toverdige alkoholer, nevnte toverdige alkoholer har Hansen polar- (Sp) og Hansen hydrogenbindings(S^)-kohesjonsparametere som faller innenfor området av en sirkel definert som har et senter ved S^ = 20,5, Sp = 13, og en radius på 8,5. Det er også nødvendig at esteren av borsyren og dihydroksiforbindelsen har en viskositet på minst 100 mPa s ved 30°C, og fortrinnsvis minst ca. 500 MPa s ved 30'C.
Borsyreesterne blir fremstilt ved fremgangsmåter som er analoge til de som er kjent innenfor fagområdet, som ved å reagere borsyre med en toverdig alkohol (for enkelhetsskyld. blir toverdige alkoholer ofte referert til her som "dioler") og fjerning av vannet som ble dannet i reaksjonen ved normale fremgangsmåter, slik som ved vakuumdestillasjon. Reaksjonen mellom borsyre og toverdig alkohol blir gjennomført ved en temperatur og i en tidsperiode som er tilstrekkelig til å danne esteren. Typiske reaksjonstemperaturer blir vanligvis funnet i området fra ca. 50 til ca. 120°C. Ved disse tempera-turene er det typisk med reaksjonstider fra ca. 2 til ca. 12 timer. I et hvert tilfelle blir reaksjonen fortsatt inntil vanninnholdet i esteren er mindre enn ca. 2 vekt-#. Andelen av borsyre til toverdig alkohol blir valgt slik at viskositeten til esteren er minst 100 MPa s ved 30° C. Eksemplene under gir representative andeler av borsyre til toverdig alkohol som er funnet å gi den ønskede viskositeten i esterproduktet. I visse tilfeller kan det være ønskelig å inkludere en mindre andel av en enverdig alkohol i for-estringsreaksjonsblandingen for å regulere molekylvekten av esterproduktet.
Toverdige alkoholer som blir anvendt i de vann-fortrengende boratesterfortynningsmidlene som blir benyttet i oppfinnelsen, er de som har Hansen polar- (Sp) og Hansen hydrogen-bindings(Sj1)-kohesjonsparametere som faller innenfor arealet av en sirkel definert som har et senter ved S^ = 20,5, Sp = 13, og en radius på 8,5. Hansen-kohesj onsparameteren S er vanligvis uttrykt ved 3 komponenter (S^, Sp, S^) der S^ er hydrogenbindingskohesjonsparameteren, Sp er polarkohesjons-parameteren, og S(j er dispersj onskohesj onsparameteren. Det har blitt funnet at i denne oppfinnelsen er dispersjons-kohesjonsparametrene til de toverdige alkoholene vesentlig de samme (verdiene som er blitt bestemt varierer mellom ca. 15,7 og 17,0), og det er derfor liten effekt i å bestemme hen-siktsmessigheten til enhver toverdig alkohol til anvendelse i oppfinnelsen. Vurderingen av Hansen-kohesjonsparametrene til toverdige alkoholer som blir anvendt i å lage boratester-fortynningsmidlet, er således redusert til en todimensjonal funksjon på basis av polar- og hydrogenbindingskohesjons-parametre.

Hansen-kohesjonsparametrene, S^ og Sp, for utvalgte flerverdige alkoholer er vist i tabell I nedenfor. Hansen- og Beerbower-data som rapportert i CRC-håndboken, ble anvendt når de var tilgjengelige. For dioler som ikke er opplistet, ble verdiene beregnet fra gruppen som medvirket ved å anvende Hansen- og Beerbower-data som vist i CRC-håndbok, s. 85-87 og Kirk-Othmer, s. 891-892. Verdiene for Sp ble beregnet ved den enkle additive metoden som er foreslått i Kirk-Othmer.

Monomerblandingen som ble anvendt i fremgangsmåten i oppfinnelsen inneholder en hydrofil monomer, slik som HEMA som en hovedkomponent, en eller flere tverr-bindende monomerer, og valgfritt små mengder med andre monomerer, slik som metakrylsyre. HEMA er den foretrukne hydrofile monomeren. Andre hydrofile monomerer som kan bli benyttet, omfatter 2-hydroksietylakrylat, 2-hydroksipropylmetakrylat, 2-hyd-roksipropylakrylat, 3-hydroksipropylmetakrylat, N-vinyl-pyrrolidon, glyserol-mono-metakrylat, glyserol-mono-akrylat og lignende. De tverr-bindende monomerene som kan bli benyttet, enten alene eller 1 kombinasjon, inkluderer etylenglykoldimetakrylat, trimetylolpropantrimetakrylat, glyseroltrimetakrylat, polyetylenglykoldimetakrylat (der polyetylenglykol har en molekylvekt opp til f.eks. ca. 400), og andre polyakrylat- og polymetakrylatestere. Den tverr-bindende monomeren blir anvendt i vanlige mengder, f.eks. fra ca. 0,1 til ca. 3, og fortrinnsvis i mengder fra ca. 0,2 til ca. 2 vektdeler pr. 100 vektdeler HEMA eller andre hydro-filiske monomerer. Andre monomerer som kan bli anvendt inkluderer metakrylsyre, som blir anvendt for å påvirke mengden av vann som hydrogelen vil absorbere ved likevekt. Metakrylsyre blir vanligvis benyttet i mengder fra ca. 0,2 til ca. 8 vektdeler pr. 100 deler HEMA. Andre monomerer som kan være tilstede i polymerisasjonsblandingen inkluderer metoksyetylmetakrylat, akrylsyre og lignende.
Som det ble nevnt ovenfor er ett av trekkene ved oppfinnelsen at hydrofobe monomerer kan bli inkludert i monomerblandingen uten å møte uforlikelighetsproblemer i den grad som de problemene som blir møtt i nåværende teknikk med polymerisering av HEMA-baserte kopolymerer. Illustrative slike hydrofobe monomerer er de UV-absorberende monomerer, slik som benzotriazol(met)akrylatestere, f.eks. 2-[2'-hydroksi-5'-akryloyloksyalkylfenyl]-2H-benzotriazolene, beskrevet av Beard et al. i US-patent nr. 4 528 311, 2-[2' -hydroksi-5' - akryloyloksy-alkoksyfenyl]-2H-benzotriazolene, beskrevet av Dunks et al. i US-patent nr. 4 716 234, og 2-( 2' -hydroksi-fenyl)-5(6)-(akryloylalkoksy)benzotriazolene, beskrevet av Dunks et al. i US-patentsøknad nr. 21 096, inngitt 3. mars 1987, og anført for å tilslutte assignataren til denne søknaden. Andre hydrofobe monomerer som kan bli inkludert i polymer i sasjonsreaksjonsblandingen med forskjellige formål, inkluderer benzofenderivater , langkjedede alkyl(met)akrylat-er, slik som n-dodecylmetakrylat, stearylmetakrylat, n-oktylmetakrylat, n-dodecylakrylat og lignende.
Benzotriazol-UV-absorberende (met)akrylatestere blir anvendt i monomerblandingen i en effektiv mengde for å absorbere UV-stråling i det endelige linseproduktet. Vanligvis vil andelen av den UV-absorberende monomeren være innenfor området fra ca. 1 til ca. 10 vektdeler pr. 100 vektdeler av den hoved-hydrofile monomeren(e), slik som HEMA.
En polymerisasjonskatalysator er inkludert i monomerblandingen. Polymerisasjonskatalysatoren kan være en fri radikal genererende forbindelse, slik som lauroylperoksid, benzoyl-peroksid, isopropylperkarbonat, azobisisobutyronitril eller lignende, som genererer frie radikaler ved moderat forhøyede temperaturer, eller polymerisasjonskatalysatoren kan være et fotoinitiatorsystem, slik som et aromatisk alfa-hydroksiketon eller et tertiært amin pluss et diketon. Illustrative eksempler på fotoinitiatorsystemer er 4-(2-hydroksietoksy)-fenyl-2-hydroksi-2-propyl-keton og en kombinasjon av kamfor-kinon og etyl-4-(N,N-dimetylamino)benzoat. Katalysatoren blir anvendt i polymerisasjonsreaksjonsblandingen i katalytisk effektive mengder, f.eks. fra ca. 0,1 til ca. 2 vektdeler pr. 100 deler HEMA.
Eksemplene fremsatt under illustrerer gjennomføring av oppf innelsen.

Kontaktlinser blir formstøpt fra følgende polymerisasjons-reaksj onsblanding:
Polymerisasjonsreaksjonsblandingen blir plassert 1 gjennomsiktig polystyrenformer av den typen som er beskrevet i Larsen, US-patent nr. 4 640 489 (se særlig fig. 2), og blir eksponert på en side av polystyrenformen til 1,7 joule/cm^ med ultrafiolett stråling i 6 til 12 minutter (eksakt eksponeringstid er ikke strengt kritisk).

Ved å anvende analoge forhold til de som er beskrevet i eksempel 1 ovenfor, ble kontaktlinser formet fra den følgende polymerisasjonsreaksjonsblåndingen:
Eksempel 3
En serie med estere av borsyre og toverdige alkoholer ble laget ved følgende generelle fremgangsmåte: Borsyre og toverdig alkohol ble helt i en 1-liters roterende inndamper og gradvis oppvarmet til 90° C (tiden for å oppnå 90° C var ca. 1 time), under anvendelse av svakt vakuum (100 torr). Når 90°C var oppnådd, ble det påført fullt vakuum (10 torr) og reaksjonen ble fortsatt i 3 timer ved 90° C. Etter avkjøling ble vanninnholdet bestemt ved Karl Fischer-titrer-ing, og viskositeten av boratesteren ved 30°C ble bestemt ved en Brookfield LVF-viskosimeter (6, 12 og 30 rpm).
Boratesterne som var fremstilt ifølge den foregående generelle prosedyren, er identifisert i tabell II nedenfor.
Tabellen identifiserer diolene som ble anvendt ved å anvende forkortelsene nevnt i tabell I, og en triol, glyserol ("gly"), som ble anvendt som en kontroll, antall mol av hver komponent (alkohol og borsyre) og det molare forhold av alkoholen til borsyrereaktanter som ble anvendt for å fremstille hver ester, viskositeten ved 30° C (i mPa s), og prosent vann i esteren. En kolonne for kommentarer er også inkludert i tabellen.
Mange av boratesterne identifisert ovenfor i tabell II, ble evaluert som vann-fortrengende fortynningsmidler med følgende monomerformulering:
Denne monomerformuleringen som inneholder 0,4 deler tverr-bindende monomer, ble utvalgt for evaluering fordi Young's modulus-verdier av hydrogeler fremstilt fra denne formuler-ingen kan bli korrelert godt med forventet yteevne i kontakt-linseanvendelser. Det har blitt funnet at hvis Young's modulus av en hydrogel fremstilt ved å anvende denne formulering (som inkluderer 0,4 deler av en polyfunksjonell tverr-bindende monomer) er minst ca. 0,10-0,12 MPa, kan en hydrogel fremstilt fra en tilsvarende formulering, som kan inneholde en svakt høyere andel av tverrbindende monomer, forventes å være sterk nok til anvendelse som en myk kontaktlinse. I konvensjonell kommersiell praksis, er mengden av polyfunksjonell tverr-bindende monomer(er), slik som etylenglykoldimetakrylat og trimetylolpropantrimetakrylat, normalt fra ca. 0,2-1,0 deler i en formulering som tilsvarer den som ble anvendt i dette eksemplet.
Myke kontaktlinser ble fremstilt fra monomer/fortynnings-blandingene fremstilt ovenfor i gjennomsiktig polystyrenformer, som beskrevet ovenfor i eksempel 1. Monomer/for-tynningsblandingen i hver form ble eksponert på en side til ca. 1,7 joule/cm^ med ultrafiolett stråling i 10 minutter ved 55 °C (TL09-lamper, med toppstråling ved 350 nm).
Linsene fremstilt fra fortynningsmidlet/monomerblandingene ble evaluert for: (1) Utseende av linse, både i form og etter avforming; og
(2) Young's modulus av de hydratiserte linsene; og
(3) Styrke som er nødvendig for å avforme de formede linsene.
Resultatene av disse evalueringene er fremvist i tabell III og IV nedenfor. Tabell III viser kjøring nr., den toverdige alkoholen som ble anvendt for å lage boratesterfortynnings-midlet, linseutseende (C = klar, W = hvit, OS = ugjennomtrengelig overflate, SO = svakt ugjennomtrengelig), og Young's modulus "E", i MPa. Tabell IV viser styrken som er nødvendig for å avforme de formede linsene ved tre forskjellige temperaturer.

Young's modulusverdier fra linsene er vist i tabell III, og ble bestemt ved følgende fremgangsmåte:
Rekkevidde
Denne testen er nyttig for sammenligning av ikke-destruktiv modulustesting av linser fra de fleste identiske fysikalske dimensjoner. Testen er blitt kalibrert mot tilsvarende linser, testet i en nøyaktig test som beskrevet i Larsen et al., US-patent nr. 4 680 336 (kolonne 9-10).
Linser
Linsene som er nyttige i denne testen er en -1,0 diopter, 8,9 +/- 0,3 mm BC (grunnkurve), 0,15 +/- 0,01 mm sentertykkelse, 14,0 +/- 0,5 mm diameter.
Test
Linsedimensjonene blir målt og, hvis de er innenfor spesi-fikasjonen, blir linsen plassert på toppen av en gjennomsiktig akrylisk sylinder (13 mm ytre diameter, 9,8 mm indre diameter, 7,2 mm høyde) slik at linsens frontkurve hviler mot den indre toppoverflaten (9,8 mm diameter) av den akryliske sylinderen. Oppsettingen blir senket i 0, 9 % saltoppløsning i sentertykkelse-målekammeret til en Optimec JCF/R/SI. Sylinderen og linsen blir sentrert slik at linsen er i en horisontal posisjon, og sentertykkelsesskalaen blir justert slik at den kan måle avbøyning på senteret av frontkurve-overflaten.
En 3 mm rustfri stålball (vekt 0,2584 g) blir forsiktig plassert på den konkave siden av linsen. Den sentrale delen av linsen vil avbøyes avhengig av modulus til linsen. Avbøyningen blir avlest i mm på sentertykkelsesskalaen, og modulus kan bli bestemt fra kalibreringsgrafen, fig. 2.
Et minimum på 3 linser fra samme sats blir undersøkt, og avbøyningen til hver linse blir målt 3 ganger. Modulus er gjennomsnitt av minst 9 målinger.
Avformingstest
Testen ble benyttet for å evaluere kreftene som var nødvendig for å åpne formen der polymer/fortynningsblandingen ble produsert, og resultatene av dette er vist i tabell IV, og er som følger:
Rekkevidde
Denne undersøkelsen er nyttig for kvantifisering av minimums-krefter som er nødvendig til å separere front- og bak-halvdelene til formen (som beskrevet i Larsen, US-patent nr. 4 640 489) som er bundet sammen med en polymermatriks som inneholder noe kjent nivå av fortynningsmiddel. Formens dimensjoner bør forbli konstant i alle prøvene som blir analysert.
Instrumentering
Testgjenstanden og monteringen som ble anvendt til å måle kreftene som trengs for å åpne formene, er vist i fig. 3. Instrumentet som ble anvendt for måling av styrke, er et laboratoriespenntestingsapparat 10, slik som en Instron-modell #1122. En 22,68 kg ladecelle (ikke vist) blir anvendt med papirmåler 12 og er satt ved 9,07 kg full skala.
Temperaturen blir kontrollert ved en varmepistol (ikke vist), slik som en Varitemp-varmepistol (Modell VT-750A) knyttet til en Staco-type 3PN2210 reostat. En T-type termokobler (ikke vist) innført i polymer/fortynningsblandingen, blir anvendt for å måle temperaturen i polymer/fortynningsblandingen.
En gjenstand 14 holder prøveeksemplaret 16 på plass under testen, og en vektstang 18 blir anvendt til å trekke topphalvdelen 20 til formen vekk fra bunnhalvdelen 22.
Testf remgangsmåte
Prøven omfatter topp- 20 og bunn- 22 halvdelene av formen 16, som er bundet sammen med polymer/fortynningsmatriks 24. Prøvene som skal undersøkes er nylig produserte fylte former med konstante dimensjoner. Formene er plassert i en eksikator umiddelbart etter polymerisering, for å forhindre at fuktig-het blir absorbert av polymeren eller fortynningsmidlet. Prøvene som skal bli undersøkt, blir plassert i prøveholderen som vist i fig. 3. Prøvegjenstanden blir holdt av det lavere grepet til Instron med et trykk på 248,2 KPa. Hele prøven er plassert i 20° vinkel i forhold til horisontalplanet når det er plassert i gjenstanden. Bunnhalvdelen 22 av formen blir bevart på plass under testen ved innføring av fire nåler (bare to er vist, i tverrsnitt) 26, 28 rundt omkretsen av bunnhalvdelen 22 til formen i 90° intervaller.
Vekthalvdelen 18 som blir anvendt til å trekke topphalvdelen 20 vekk fra bunnhalvdelen 22, er plassert mellom de to halvdelene og er holdt på plass med det øvre grepet 30 til Instron. Hastigheten som brekkstangen trekker topphalvdelen, er regulert ved tverrhodefarten til Instron.
Luftstrømmen og varmepistolen er rettet direkte på topphalvdelen av formen for å opprettholde ensartet oppvarming. Temperaturen i luftstrømmen kan bli regulert med reoståten.
Prøvetemperaturen blir målt ved å innføre en termokobling på en slik måte at den måler endring i temperaturen i polymer I fortynningsmatriksen 24. Når termokoblingen måler den ønskede temperaturen, heves tverrhodet i Instron med en hastighet på 2,5 cm/min. Kraften for å avforme ble målt ved 30° , 55° og 80°C.
Kraften som er nødvendig for å bryte adhesjon av polymer/fortynningsmidlet til topphalvdelen 20 som en funksjon av tiden, blir registrert med en kurvemåler i Instron. Fra denne registreringen blir minimums-avformingskraften bestemt.
Fra data presentert ovenfor, kan man se at bare de esterne laget fra dioler, faller innenfor det definerte Hansen-parameterarealet som gir gjennomsiktige linser (som er vesentlig for kontaktlinseanvendelse), og bare de som har viskositeter større enn 100 MPa s, har høye nok modulus-verdier slik at de er sterke nok til å bli anvendt i kontakt-1inseanvendelser.
Avformingsdata demonstrerer klart at diolesterne fra foreliggende oppfinnelse er mye enklere å avforme (mindre krefter trengs til avforming) enn de foretrukne estere fra Larsen-patent, nr. 4 495 313.
Som en illustrasjon på utbytteforbedringen som man kan oppnå ved å benytte diol-boratesterne fra denne oppfinnelsen istedenfor en glyserol-boratester, ble antall overflatefeil bestemt i tre satser med 80 linser fra hver av monomer/- esterblandinger, ved å anvende en formulering som var analog til den som er fremsatt over i eksempel 1. Når fortynningsmidlet som ble anvendt var dietylenglykol/borsyreester (ester nr. 21 i tabell II), var prosentdelen med overflatedefekter funnet å være 10,4 %, når fortynningsmidlet var en 1,4-butandiol/borsyreester (ester nr. 12 i tabell II), var prosentdelen med overflatedefekter funnet å være 13,0 %, og når fortynningsmidlet var en glyserol/borsyreester (ester nr. 20 i tabell II), var prosentdelen med overflatedefekter funnet å være 30,4 %. Dette er en verdifull forbedring i forhold til fremgangsmåten beskrevet i Larsen-patentet, nr. 4 495 313.
Claims (6)
1.
Fremgangsmåte for fremstilling av formede hydrogelartikler, fortrinnsvis kontaktlinser som innbefatter følgende trinn:
(1) forme eller støpe en polymerisasjonsblanding som omfatter: en monomerblanding som omfatter en hovedandel av en hydrofil (met )akrylatestermonomer, en tverr-bindende monomer, eventuelt en hydrofob monomer og et fortynningsmiddel for å fremstille en formet gel av kopolymer av nevnte monomerer og nevnte fortynningsmiddel , og
(2) deretter erstatte nevnte fortynningsmiddel med vann, der f ortynningsmidlet er kjennetegnet ved at det er et vannfortrengbart fortynningsmiddel, hvor nevnte fortynningsmiddel har en viskositet på minst 100 MPa s ved 30°C,
karakterisert ved at man som nevnte fortynningsmiddel i det vesentlige anvender en borsyreester av visse toverdige alkoholer, hvor nevnte toverdige alkoholer har Hansen polar- (Sp) og Hansen hydrogenbinding- (S^) kohesjonsparametre som faller innenfor området av en sirkel som er definert ved å ha et senter ved S^ = 20,5, Sp = 13 og en radius på 8,5.

Fremgangsmåte ifølge krav 1, karakterisert ved at nevnte hydrofile monomer er et hydroksialkyl-(met )akrylat.

Fremgangsmåte ifølge krav 2, karakterisert
ved at hydroksialkyl(met)akrylatet er 2-hydroksietylmetakrylat.

Fremgangsmåte ifølge krav 1, karakterisert ved at nevnte toverdige alkohol blir valgt fra 1,4-butandiol, 1,6-heksandiol, 2,5-heksandiol, dietylenglykol, trietylenglykol, tetraetylenglykol, polyetylenglykol som har en molekylvekt opp til ca. 1 000, dipropylenglykol og tripropylenglykol.

Fremgangsmåte ifølge krav 1, karakterisert ved at nevnte toverdige alkohol er 1,4-butandiol.
