Description
Foreliggende oppfinnelse angår et belegningspreparat
og spesielt et belegningspreparat som herder ved lave temperaturer og høye relative fuktigheter.
I nordlige klimaer er sesongen for maling av utvendige overflater av strukturer som oljebrønnplattformer, broer,
olje- eller kjemikalielagringstanker, skip og lektere meget kort. For tiden anvendes belegningspreparater som herder ved omgivende temperaturer på 10°C og høyere. Et slikt preparat er vist i US patent 3 558 564 utstedt 26. januar 1971. Et belegningspreparat trenges som vil herde ved temperaturer så lave som 0°C, hvilket ville øke malingssesongen med flere måneder i nordlige klimaer. Et slikt preparat bør ha følgende egenskaper: utmerket klebning til substratet som vanligvis er stål, saltbesprøytningsmotstandsdyktighet, saltvannsmotstandsdyktighet, værmotstandsdyktighet, oppløs-ningsmiddelmotstandsdyktighet og utmerket varighet. Dess-
uten bør preparatet gi en overflate på hvilken andre belegg kan påføres og vil feste seg.
De nye preparater har ovennevnte egenskaper.
Oppfinnelsen angår således et belegningspreparat inneholdende 10-80 vekt% bindemiddel og 20-90 vekt% av et organisk oppløsningsmiddel hvor bindemidlet består i det vesentlige av
(1) 20-60 vekt% av en polymer bestående i det vesentlige av polymeriserte monomerer valgt fra gruppen bestående av styren, methylmethacrylat,
et alkylmethacrylat, et alkylacrylat, som hver har 2-12 carbonatomer i alkylgruppen, og polymeren har hengende på carbon-carbonatomene av polymerryggraden aminoestergrupper med formelen:
hvor R er en alkylengruppe med 2-3 carbonatomer eller hydroxyaminoestergrupper med formelen og har en gjennomsnittlig numerisk molekylvekt på 1.500-100.000 bestemt ved gelgjennomtreng-ningskromatografi under anvendelse av styren som standard, (2) 15-45 vekt% av epoxyharpiks. Belegningspreparatet ifølge oppfinnelsen er kjennetegnet ved at det dessuten inneholder (3) 5-25 vekt% av et polyamin-herdemiddel med formelen:
hvor R<1> er R<2>NH2 og R<2> er en alifatisk eller cycloalifatisk gruppe.
Belegningspreparatet inneholder 10-80 vekt%
bindemiddel. Ved å velge bindemiddelbestanddeler med en relativt lav molekylvekt, kan høyfasthetspreparater fremstilles med et bindemiddelfaststoffinnhold på 50-80 vekt%. Bindemidlet er en blanding av en polymer, en epoxyharpiks eller
epoxy-novolakkharpiks og og et polyaminherdemiddel. Vanligvis inneholder preparatet pigmenter i et pigment til bindemiddel-vektforhold på 20:100 til 400:100.
En spesiell fordel ved preparatet er at det herder
ved temperaturer så lave som 0°C til en klebefri tilstand i ca. 1 time og herder fullt ved disse temperaturer i
løpet av ca. 24 timer. Herdingen er betraktelig hurtigere ved temperaturer over 0°C. Under normale temperaturbeting-elser er preparatets "brukstid" minst 10 timer, hvilket er tilstrekkelig til påføring av preparatet.
Polymeren består av polymeriserte monomerer av methylmethacrylat, styren, alkylmethacrylat, alkylacrylat eller blandinger derav, hver med 2-12 carbonatomer i alkylgruppen, og har påhengende aminoestergrupper eller hydroxyaminoestergrupper. Polymeren har en rekke gjennomsnittsmolekylvekter fra 1.500-100.000 og fortrinnsvis 10.000 til 20.000.
Molekylvekt bestemmes ved gelgjennomtrengningskromato-grafi under anvendelse av polystyren som standard.
En metode for fremstilling av acryliske polymerer er
å polymerisere monomerer av methylmethacrylat, styren, alkylmethacrylat, alkylacrylat eller blandinger derav og en umettet syrefunskjonell monomer som methacrylsyre eller acrylsyre og derpå efterreagere carboxylgruppene av den dannede polymer med et alkylenimin for å danne påhengende aminoestergrupper fra ryggraden av polymeren.
Polymerisasjonen av monomerene for å danne polymeren utføres ved konvensjonelle metoder i hvilke monomerene, oppløsningsmidlene og polymerisasjonskatalysatoren innføres i et polymerisasjonskar og omsettes ved 50-250°C i 0,5-6 timer for å danne polymeren.
Typiske polymerisasjonskatalysatorer som anvendes, er azopolymerisasjonskatalysatorer som azobisisobutyronitril, azo-bis-(y-dimethylvaleronitril) og lignende eller peroxy-polymerisasjonskatalysatorer som benzoylperoxyd.
Typiske oppløsningsmidler som anvendes, er toluen, xylen, ethylacetat, aceton, methylethylketon, methylisobutyl-keton, ethanol, isopropanol og andre alifatiske, cycloali-fatiske og aromatiske hydrocarbonestere, ethere, ketoner og alkoholer, anvendes også konvensjonelt.
En foretrukket acrylisk polymer inneholder
20-45 vekt% methylmethacrylat, 20-40% styren, 25-45 vekt% butylmethacrylat og 0,1-5 vekt% methacrylsyre, hvilken polymer er blitt efterreagert med et alkylenimin som propylenimin for å få aminoestergrupper hengende på carbon-carbonpolymer-ryggraden med formelen:
hvor R er en alkylengruppe med 2-3 carbonatomer.
I en alternativ fremgangsmåte for fremstilling blir polymeren, monomerer av methylmethacrylat, styrenalkyl-methacrylat, alkylacrylat eller blandinger derav og glycidyl-methacrylat eller glycidylacrylat polymerisert under anvendelse av ovenstående oppløsningsmidler, polymerisasjonskata-lysator og fremgangsmåte. Den resulterende polymer og ammoniakk eller en ammoniumforbindelse innføres i et trykk-kar og oppvarmes til 80-150°C og holdes ved et trykk

på 14-35 kg/cm ( 200-500 pund pr. kvadrattomme) i 1 til 8 timer eller inntil alle glycidylgruppene er omsatt med ammoniakk eller ammoniumforbindelsen. Efter at reaksjonen av ammoniakk med glycidylgruppene av polymeren er fullstendig, avdrives overskudd av fri ammoniakk i vakuum. Den resulterende polymer har hydroxyaminoestergrupper hengende fra carbon-carbonryggraden av polymeren og har følgende formler:
Monomerene anvendt for dannelse av polymeren, er styren, methylmethacrylat, alkylmethacrylater med 2-12 carbonatomer i alkylgruppen som ethylmethacrylat, propylmethacrylat, isopropylmethacrylat, butylmethacrylat, isobutylmethacrylat, pentylmethacrylat, hexylmethacrylat, ethylhexylmethacrylat, nonylmethacrylat, decylmethacrylat, laurylmethacrylat og lignende; alkylacrylatene har 2-12 carbonatomer i alkylgruppen som methylacrylat, ethylacrylat, propylacrylat, butylacrylat, isobutylacrylat, pentylacrylat, hexylacrylat, ethyl-hexylacrylat, nonylacrylat, decylacrylat, lauryl-acrylat og lignende, acrylsyre og methacrylsyre. Mindre reaktive syreumettede monomerer kan anvendes som itaconsyre, fumarsyre og maleinsyre. Glycidylfunksjonelle umettede monomerer kan anvendes. I de alternative fremgangsmåter for fremstilling av polymeren anvendes glycidylacrylat eller methacrylater.
I tillegg til de ovennevnte monomerer kan de følgende monomerer anvendes for å danne polymeren: vinyltoluen, vinyloxazolinestere, maleatestere som diethylmaleat, fumuratestere som dimethylfumurat.
Monomeren av polymeren velges for å få en ønsket glass-omvandlingstemperatur og ønsket fleksibilitet av produktet dannet fra belegningspreparatet.
En epoxyharpiks som kan anvendes i preparatet, har formelen: hvor n er et tall fra - 0,5 til 4. Fortrinnsvis er epoxyharpiksen polymerisasjonsproduktet av epiklorhydrin og bisfenol A. Med denne foretrukne epoxyharpiks er R i ovenstående formel
Typisk for disse foretrukne epoxyharpikser er "Epon" 828 med en ekvivalentvekt på 185-192 fremstilt av Shell Chemical Company og D.E.R. 331 med en ekvivalentvekt på 182-190 fremstilt av The Dov; Chemical Company. En annen foretrukken epoxyharpiks er " Epon" 1001 med en ekvivalentvekt på 450-550. Ekvivalentvekten er det antall gram harpiks som inneholder 1 gram av epoxyd.
En epoxy-novolakkharpiks som kan anvendes i preparatet, har formelen:
hvor n er et tall på 0,2-2. Foretrukne epoxy-novolakk-harpikser er D.E.N. 439 hvor n har en gjennomsnittsverdi på 0,2 og har en ekvivalentvekt på 172-179, D.E.N. 438 hvor n har en gjennomsnittsverdi på 1,6 og har en ekvivalentvekt på 176-181 og D.E.N. 439 hvor n har en gjennomsnittsverdi på 1,8 og har en ekvivalentvekt på 191-210. Disse harpikser fremstilles av Dow Chemical Company.
Belegningspreparatet inneholder et aminherdemiddel med formelen:
hvor R^" er R2NH2°g R2 er et alifat^-sk eller cycloalifatisk hydrocarbonradikal.
Herdemidlet fremstilles ved å omsette 3 mol av et alifatisk eller cycloalifatisk polyamin med 1 mol av et dialkylmaleat. Reaksjonstemperaturer på 100-170°C anvendes i 1-6 timer for å danne herdemidlet mens en alkanol som dannes ved reaksjonen, fjernes.
Typiske polyaminer anvendt for å fremstille herdemidlet, er isoforon-diamin som er 3-aminoethyl-3,5,5-tri-methyl-cyclohexylamin, hexamethylendiaminer, ethylendiamin, 1,4-cyclohexan-bis-(methylamin), 1,2-diaminopropan, propylendiamin, diethylether-diamin og trimethyl-hexamethyl-methylendiamin. Typiske dialkylmaleater er dimethylmaleat, diethylmaleat, ethylmethylmaleat, dipropylmaleat, dibutyl-maleat og lignende.
Et foretrukket herdemiddel er reaksjonsproduktet av isoforondiamin og dimethylmaleat og har følgende struktur-formel:
Som nevnt består bindemidlet av belegningspreparatet i det vesentlige av 20-60 vekt% av polymeren, 15-4 5 vekt% epoxyharpiks eller epoxy-novolakkharpiks, 5-25 vekt% av polyamin-herdemidlet.
For å gi en hurtig herdning ved lave temperaturer tilsettes en aromatisk alkohol i mengder på 1-10 vekt%, beregnet på vekten av bindemidlet. Typiske aromatiske alkoholer som kan tilsettes, er fenol, nonylfenol, tris-(dimethylaminomethyl)-fenol, kombinasjoner av nonylfenyl og et amin som triethylamin eller diethanolamin. Tris-(dimethylaminomethyl)-fenol foretrekkes for å få et høy-kvalitets-belegningspreparat.
0,5-5 vekt%, beregnet på vekten av bindemidlet,
av en kloridionfjerner kan tilsettes til preparatet. Metall-ionet av spylemidlet reagerer med eventuelt gjenværende klorider som kan være på et substrat som males og derved nedsetter korrosjonen av substratet. Eksempelvis dekkes stålet av en oljebrønnplattform i havet med et saltresiduum. Hvis saltet på overflaten av stålet ikke er bundet på et eller annet vis, begynner korrosjon og påskyndes hurtig. Typiske kloridionfjernere som kan anvendes, er som følger: bly-nafthenat som er fortrukket, blytallat og blyoctat.
Ofte påføres preparatet på substrater som er fuktige eller våte. For å sikre omhyggelig fukting av overflaten og inntrengning til metallet tilsettes 0,1-3 vekt%, beregnet på vekten av bindemidlet, av et fuktemiddel til preparatet. Typiske silicon-vætemidler er følgende: poly-dimethylsiloxan, oxyethylenmethylsiloxaner som "Silwet11 L-77 og "Silwet" L-7607 fremstilt av Union Carbide og andre kon-densasjonsprodukter av ethylenoxyd og alkylsiloxan. Andre vætemidler kan anvendes som acrylatpolymer-flytningsregul-eringsmidler, fluor-kjemiske overflateaktive midler som FC 430 og FC 431 fremstilt av 3M. For reologikontroll
kan 1-10 vekt%, beregnet på vekten av bindemidlet, av hydro-fobt fordampet siliciumoxyd tilsettes. Tilsetningen av reologiregulerende midler tillater påføring av tykke belegg som 200-4OOyUiti tør r tykkelse uten siging av belegget.
I alminnelighet pigmenteres preparatet. Pigmentene dispergeres i preparatet ved konvensjonelle metoder som kule-møllemaling, sandmaling, avgnidningsmaling, Dynomill-maling og lignende. Typiske pigmenter som kan anvendes, er følg-ende: metalliske oxyder som titandioxyd, jernoxyd, sinkoxyd, kromatpigmenter som blykromat, fyllstoffpigmenter som barytter, talkum, chinolin og lignende, fosfatpigmenter som sinkfosfat, kjønrøk, sorte molybdatoxydpigmenter, barium-metaboratpigmenter, bentonpigmenter og lignende.
En spesielt nyttig kombinasjon av pigmenter for en korrosjonsbestandig grunning er de følgende: titandioxyd, benton, talkum, kjønrøk og sinkfosfat.
Preparatet er i alminnelighet i to komponenter. Komponent A inneholder epoxyharpiks og pigmenter. Komponent B inneholder polymeren, polyamin-herdemidlet og pigmenter og eventuelt en fenolforbindelse. De to komponenter blandes sammen relativt kort før påføringen. Oppbevaringstiden for preparatet ved temperaturer på 0°C ventes å være minst to dager, og ved 25°C er den ca. 24 timer.
Oppløsningsmidler anvendt i preparatet, velges for å
få herding ved lave temperaturer og har en høy fordampnings-hastighet ved disse lave temperaturer. Typisk nyttige oppløsningsmidler er som følger: alkoholer som methanol, ethanol, propanol, isopropanol, benzylalkohol, acetater som ethylacetat, toluen, xylen og lignende.
Belegningspreparatet kan påføres ved konvensjonelle metoder som sprøyting, elektrostatisk sprøyting, luftfri sprøyting, pensling, dypping, strømningsbelegning og lignende. Preparatet kan påføres på en rekke substrater som stål, jern, malt stål, behandlet stål som fosfatisert stål, aluminium, plast, trebelegg og lignende. Preparatet kan herdes fullt som vist ved motstandsdyktighet mot oppløsningsmidler som methylethylketon ved ca. 0°C i 24 til 48 timer. Høyere herdetemperaturer nedsetter herdetiden. Den resulterende "finish" har utmerket vedheftning til substratet, god korro-sjonsbestandighet, er motstandsdyktig mot vær og varig, og med passende pigmentering kan det anvendes som en grunning eller et toppbelegg. Preparatet er særlig nyttig som et toppbelegg for stålunderlag belagt med en uorganisk sink-grunning.
Preparatet er særlig nyttig i kolde klimaer for å male oljebrønnplattformer i havet, oljetårn på land, skip, lektere, olje- og kjemiske tanker, broer, oljeraffinerier og lignende. Preparatet kan modifiseres for anvendelse for belegning eller oppusning av lastebiler og automobiler.
Det følgende eksempel illustrerer oppfinnelsen. Alle deler og prosenter er på vektbasis hvor annet ikke er angitt. Molekylvekter er bestemt ved gelinntrengningskromatografi under anvendelse av polystyren som standard.
Eksempel 1
En iminert acrylpolymeroppløsning ble fremstilt ved å innføre de følgende bestanddeler i et 20-liters reaksjonskar forsynt med rører, termometer, tilbakeløpskjøler og en varmekilde:
Del 1 innføres i reaksjonskaret og oppvarmes til sin tilbake-løpstemperatur på ca. 100°C. Del 2 tilsettes, og den dannede reaksjonsblanding holdes ved sin tilbakeløpstemperatur i 15 minutter. Del 3 forblandes og tilsettes så til reaksjonsblandingen som følger: 30% av del 3 ble tilsatt i løpet av 15 minutter, 50% ble tilsatt i løpet av 50 minutter, og de gjenværende 20% ble tilsatt i løpet av en 80-minutters periode. Del 4 ble tilsatt, og reaksjonsblandingen ble holdt ved sin tilbakeløpstemperatur i 90 minutter. Del 5 ble tilsatt, og reaksjonsblandingen ble avkjølt til 40°C. Del 6 ble så tilsatt i løpet av 45 minutter og oppvarmet til ca. 75°C og holdt ved denne temperatur i 5 timer inntil syre-tallet på reaksjonen var under 5. Del 7 ble så tilsatt.
Den dannede polymeroppløsning hadde et faststoffinnhold på ca. 60%, en Gardner Holdt viskositet målt ved 60°C var ca. Z3, og polymeren hadde et syretall på 3,2, et amin-tall på 18,5 og et gjennomsnittlig molekylvekttall på ca. 14.000, og en gjennomsnittsmolekylvekt på ca. 34.500. Fritt propylenimin var under 50 deler pr. million.
En polyamin-aktivatoroppløsning ble fremstilt ved å innføre følgende bestanddeler i et reaksjonskar forsynt med en rører, vannfraskiller, pakket kolonne, termometer og kondenseringsanordning.
Del 1 ble innført i reaksjonskaret og oppvarmet til 120°C og ble dekket med nitrogen. Del 2 ble tilsatt i løpet av en 3-timers periode under opprettholdelse av temp-eraturen av den dannede reaksjonsblanding på 120°C. Temp-eraturen ble så hevet gradvis til en maksimumstemperatur på 170°C mens 1085 deler methanol ble avdrevet. Del 3 ble så tilsatt/ og reaksjonsblandingen ble avkjølt til den omgivende temperatur.
Den dannede oppløsning har et faststoffinnhold på 60%, en Gardner Holdt viskositet målt ved 25°C på W+l/3 og en aminverdi på 359.
Malingsformulerin<g> I
En maling ble fremstilt ved å fremstille komponentene AI og BI og derpå blande disse komponenter sammen.
Komponent AI ble fremstilt ved å innføre de følgende bestanddeler i en Dyno-mølle og male inntil en partikkel-størrelse på 10-15yumvar oppnådd og derpå fjerne den» og filtrere:
Komponent BI ble fremstilt ved maling av ovenstående bestanddeler i en Dyno-mølle under anvendelse av ovenstående metode:
100 deler av komponent AI ble omhyggelig blandet med 59 deler av komponent BI for å danne malingpreparatet I.
Den resulterende maling ble redusert til en sprayviskositet med toluen og sprøytet ved en luftfri sprøytemetode på kaldvalsede stålpaneler og sandblåste stålpaneler til en tørr-filmtykkelse på 200-400 mikron. Den omgivende lufttemperatur var 0-5°C. Panelene tørret til klebefri tilstand i ca.
1 time uten siging eller renning av malingen.
Et belagt kaldvalset stålpanel og et belagt sandblåst stålpanel ble neddykket i saltvann i 200 timer. Ingen korrosjonssvikt ble iakttatt.
Et sett belagte kaldvalsede stål- og belagte sandblåste stålpaneler ble igjen belagt med et acrylisk urethanpreparat 1 time efter den første spraypåføring av malingen;
et annet sett 3 timer efter påføring og et tredje sett 3 uker efter påføring. I hvert tilfelle hadde det acryliske urethanpreparat utmerket adhesjon til det malte stålsubstrat.
Malingpreparatet ble påført på det utvendige av en "off shore" stål-oljebrønnplattform som var blitt sandblåst i Nordsjøen. Malingen tørret til klebefri tilstand i ca. 1 time og ble senere belagt med et acrylisk urethanpreparat. Den resulterende malte overflate hadde utmerket korrosjons-og værbestandighet.
Eksempel 2
Ma1ingsformu1ering II
En maling ble fremstilt ved å lage komponentene All og BH og derpå ble disse bestanddeler blandet.
Komponent All ble fremstilt ved å innføre de følgende bestanddeler i en Dyno-mølle og malt til en finhet på
10-15 mikron, og derpå ga uttagning og filtrering det følgende preparat:
Bestanddel Bli ble fremstilt ved å male de følgende bestanddeler i en Dyno-mølle under anvendelse av ovenstående metode:
100 deler av komponent All ble omhyggelig blandet med 52 deler av komponent BII for å danne malingpreparatet II.
Den resulterende maling ble redusert til en sprayviskositet og sprøytet på kaldvalsede stålpaneler og sandblåste stålpaneler. Den omgivende temperatur var 0-5°C. Panelene tørret til klebefri tilstand i ca. 1 time.
Som i eksempel 1 ble belagte kaldvalsede stål- og sandblåste stålpaneler neddykket i sjøvann i 200 timer, og ingen korrosjonssvikt ble iakttatt.
Som i eksempel 1 ble de belagte paneler igjen belagt i 1 time, 3 timer og 3 uker efter den første påføring med et acrylisk urethanpreparat som hadde utmerket vedheftning til det malte substrat.
Dessuten ble også påføring av malingpreparat II gjort på en "off shore" stål oljebrønnplattform i Nordsjøen, og malingen tørret til klebefri tilstand i 1 time og ble senere belagt med et acrylisk urethanpreparat, og den dannede finish hadde utmerket korrosjons- og værbestandighet.
Claims (2)
1. Belegningspreparat inneholdende 10-80 vekt% bindemiddel og 20-90 vekt% av et organisk oppløsningsmiddel hvor bindemidlet består i det vesentlige av (1) 20-60 vekt% av en polymer bestående i det vesentlige av polymeriserte monomerer valgt fra gruppen bestående av styren, methylmethacrylat, et alkylmethacrylat, et alkylacrylat, som hver har 2-12 carbonatomer i alkylgruppen, og polymeren har hengende på carbon-carbonatomene av polymerryggraden aminoestergrupper med formelen:
hvor R er en alkylengruppe med 2-3 carbonatomer eller hydroxyaminoestergrupper med formelen og har en gjennomsnittlig numerisk molekylvekt på 1.500-100.000 bestemt ved gelgjennomtreng-ningskromatografi under anvendelse av styren som standard, (2) 15-45 vekt% av epoxyharpiks, karakterisert ved at bindemidlet dessuten inneholder (3) 5-25 vekt% av et polyamin-herdemiddel med formelen:
hvor R<1> er R<2>NH2 og R2 er en alifatisk eller cyc-loalif atisk gruppe.
