Werkwijze voor het verbeteren van de brandstof economie van verbran-dingsmotoren onder toepassing van met boraat behandelde 1,2-alkaan-diolen.
De onderhavige uitvinding heeft betrekking op smeeroliesamenstellingen en hun gebruik bij het verminderen van het brand-stofverbruik in verbrandingsmotoren. Meer in het bijzonder heeft de uitvinding betrekking op smeeroliesamenstellingen voor carters, 5 die met boraat behandelde 1,2-alkaancliolen met een lange keten be-vatten als wrijving verlagende middelen.
Met de crisis, die samenhangt met verminderende hoeveelhe-den fossiele brandstof en de snel stijgende prijzen voor deze brandstof, is er een grote mate van belangstelling voor het vermin-10 deren van de hoeveelheid brandstof, verbruikt door automotoren en dergelijke.
Er bestaat de grote noodzaak smeermiddelen te vinden, die de totale wrijving in de motor verminderen, en dus de energiebe-hoeften daarvan verlagen.
15 In het Amerikaanse ootrooischrift 4*201.684 worden smeer- oli&n vermeld, die gezwavelde vetzuuramiden, esters of esteramiden van gealkoxyleerde aminen bevatten, die de wrijving tussen glijden-de metaaloppervlakken in verbrandingsmotoren verlagen.
In het Amerikaanse ootrooischrift 4·167.486 worden smeer-20 olien beschreven, die bepaalde zure esters met dubbele bindingen of het dimeer of trimeer van dergelijke zure esters bevatten. Vermin-deringen in brandstofverbruik in een verbrandingsmotor worden be-weerd door toepassing van de smeerolien in het carter van de motor.
- In het Amerikaanse ootrooischrift 3*151»077 wordt het ge-25 bruik vermeld van met boraat behandelde, gemonoacyleerde trimethy-lolalkanen als motorbrandstof en smeerolietoevoegsels. Yan de toe-voegsels wordt vermeld, dat deze het optreden van oppervlakte-ontsteking in een verbrandingsmotor verlagen en de opbouw van ear-buratorafzettingen remt.
30 In het Amerikaanse ootrooischrift 2.795*548 wordt het ge bruik van smeeroliesamenstellingen beschreven, die met boraat be-handeld glycerolmonooleaat bevatten. De oliesamenstellingen worden gebruikt in het carter van een verbrandingsmotor om de oxydatie van de olie en de corrosie van de metalen delen van de motor te vermin-35 deren.
Voor zover bekend is geen poging gedaan een evenwichtig ge- 8203033 « * -2- formuleerde smeeroliesamenstelling te bereiden, zoals hier beschre-ven, die niet alleen verbeterde oxydatie en corrosieremmende eigen-sehappen heeft, maar eveneens verbeterde dispersie-, slijt- en wrijvingseigensehappen.
5 Als het meest belangrijk werd gevonden, dat smering van het carter van een verbrandingsmotor met een smeerolie, die met boraat behandelde 1,2-alkaancLi olen met lange keten bevat, het brandstof-verbruik van de motor verlaagt.
Yolgens de onderhavige uitvinding worden smeerolien ver-10 schaft, die de wrijving tussen glijdende metaaloppervlakken in het carter van verbrandingsmotoren verminderen. De verminderde wrijving is een gevolg van de toevoeging aan de smeerolie van werkzame hoe-veelheden van een met boraat behandelde 1,2-alkaandiol met lange keten met formule 1, waarin R een alkylgroep is, die 8-28 koolstof-15 atomen bevat of mengsels daarvan en bij voorkenr is de alkylgroep lineair en bevat weinig of geen vertakking. Het meest bij voorkenr bevat R 8-18 koolstofatomen of een mengsel van alkylgroepen, die 13-16 koolstofatomen bevatten en heeft weinig of geen vertakking.
Andere toevoegsels kunnen eveneens in de smeerolie aanwezig 20 zijn om een geschikt evenwicht van eigenschappen te verkrijgen, zoals dispersie, corrosie, slijtage en oxydatie, die kritisch zijn voor een geschikt bedrijf van een verbrandingsmotor.
Derhalve is een andere uitvoeringsvorm.van de onderhavige uitvinding gericht op een smeerolie, die geformuleerd is voor toe-25 passing in het carter van een verbrandingsmotor met het doel het brandstofverbruik van de motor te verbeteren, gekenmerkt door de aanwezigheid van (a) een overwegende hoeveelheid olie van smeringsviscositeit en (b) een werkzame hoeveelheid van elk van de volgende bestanddelen: 30 1. een alkenylsuccinimide of -succinaat of mengsel daarvan, 2. een zout van een dikoolwaterstofdithiofosforzuur van een metaal van groep II van het periodiek systeem, 3· een neutraal of overt as isch alkalimetaal- of aardalkalimetaal koolwaterstofstilfonaat of mengsels ervan, 35 4· een neutraal of over basis da alkalimetaal- of aardalkalimetaal gealkyleerd fenolaafc of mengsels ervan en 5· een met boraat behandelde 1,2-alkaandiol met lange keten met formule 1, waarin R een alkylgroep met 8-28 koolstofatomen voorstelt, als wrijvingsmodificeermiddel.

* -* -3- \ ze verschaft voor Let verminderen van het brandstofverbruik van een verbrandingsmotor door de bewegende oppervlakken ervan met de hier-voor beschreven smeerolie te behandelen.
Toevoeging van 0,1 tot 5 gew.% en bij voorkeur 0,5 tot 5 4 gew.% van een met boraat behandelde 1,2-alkaandiol met lange ke-ten aan een cartersmeerolie verbetert aanzienlijk de brandstofeco-nomie van de verbrandingsmotor. Meer in bet bijzonder worden ver-beteringen in het brandstofkilometrage van 1,5 tot 2% betrokken op het gemiddelde bij motorproeven waargenomen. Deze verbetering in 10 de brandstofeconomie kan verkregen worden bij zowel compressie-ontstekingsmotoren, dat wil zeggen-dieselmotoren als vonkontste-kingsmotoren, d.w.z. benzinemotoren.
De met boraat behandelde alkaan-1,2-diolen met formule 1, die bij de onderhavige uitvinding geschikt zijn, zijn die verbin-15 dingen die 10 - 30, bij voorkeur 10-20 koolstofatomen bevatten.
Soorten met een enkelvoudig koolstofaantal kminen worden toegepast, zoals met boraat behandeld decaan-1,2-diol, met boraat behandeld ootaandecaan-1,2-diol, met boraat behandeld eicosan-1,2-diol, met boraat behandeld trioontaan-1,2-diol en dergelijke, maar een meng-20 sel van verschillende koolstofaantallen verdient de voorkeur. Tot typische mengsels behoren de met boraat behandelde 1,2-diolen van alkanen met 10 tot en met 30 koolstofatomen, de met boraat behandelde 1,2-diolen van alkanen met 12, 14* 16» 18 en 20 koolstofatomen, de met boraat behandelde 1,2-diolen van alkanen met 15 tot en 25 met 20 koolstofatomen, de met boraat behandelde t,2-dicQen van alkanen met 15 tot en met 18 koolstofatomen, de met boraat behandelde 1,2-diolen van alkanen met 20 tot en met 24 koolstofatomen, de met boraat behandelde 1,2-diolen van alkanen met 24, 26 en 28 koolstofatomen en dergelijke.
30 De met boraat behandelde 1,2-alkaandiolen met lange keten worden bereid door het met boraat behandelen van een 1,2-alkaandiol met formule 2, waarin E zoals hiervoor gedefinieerd is, met een stoechiometrische hoeveelheid boorzuur onder verwijdering van het reactiewater door azeotrope destillatie. De reactie wordt veronder-35 steld te verlopen volgens het schema met de figuur van het formule-blad, waarbij E een alkylgroep met 8-28 koolstofatomen is.
De reactie kan worden uitgevoerd bij een temperatuur in het trajekt van 60°C tot 135°C* bij aanwezigheid van elk geschikt orga-nisch oplosmiddel zoals methanol, benzeen, xylenen, tolueen, neu-40 trale olie en dergelijke. Wanneer het oplosmiddel met water geen 8203033 4 9 -4- azeotroop vormt, wordt voldoende van een azeotroop vormend middel opgenomen om het water azeotroop te verwijderen.
De diolen, die voor de onderhavige uitvinding gebruikt wor-den, zijn hetzij in de handel verkrijgbaar hetzij gemakkelijk te be-5 reiden nit het overeenkomstige 1-alkeen volgens op zichzelf bekende methoden. Bijvoorbeeld wordt het alkeen eerst met een perzunr om-gezet, zoals peroryazijnzuur of waters to fperoxyde pins miereznnr onder vorming van een alkaan-1,2-epoxyde, dat gemakkelijk gehydro-liseerd wordt onder znre of basische katalyse tot het alkaan-1,2-10 diol. Yolgens een andere werkwijze wordt het alkeen eerst gehalo-geneerd tot een 1,2-dihalogeenalkaan en vervolgens gehydrolyseerd tot een alkaan-1,2-diol door eerst met natriumacetaat en vervolgens met natrinmhydroxyde om te zetten.
1-Alkenen zijn beschikbaar bij de thermische kraking van 15 wassen. Deze werkwijze geeft alkenen van alle koolstofaantallen. 1-Alkenen met een even aantal koolstofatomen worden bereid volgens de bekende etheen,,groei"reactie. Alkenen, die verkregen zijn volgens elk van deze werkwijzen, zijn in hoofdzaak lineair in struc-tnnr met weinig of geen vertakking. Lineaire alkenen zijn de alke-20 nen die voor de omzetting tot alkaan-1,2-diolen de voorkeur verdie-nen.
De smeeroliSn, die gebruikt worden bij de werkwijze van de onderhavige ·αζΐν1ηάΐη®, bevatten een overwegende hoeveelheid van een smeerolie en ongeveer 0,10 tot 5»0 gew.JK) van het met boraat be-25 handelde alkaandiol met formule 1, bij voorkeur 0,5 tot 4,0 ge en het meest bij voorkeur 1-2 gev,% betrokken op het gewioht van de totale samenstelling. De optimale hoeveelheid van met boraat be-handeld alkaandiol binnen deze trajekten zal enigszins variSren af-hankelijk van de basisolie en de andere in de olie aanwezige toe-30 voegsels.
Toevoegselconcentraten vallen eveneens onder de onderhavige uitvinding. In de concentraattoevoegselvorm is het met boraat be-handelde diol aanwezig in een concentratie, die varieert van 5-50 gew.90.
35 De smeeroliesamenstellingen worden bereid door onder toe passing van de gebruikelijke teehnieken de geschikte hoeveelheid van het gewenste, met boraat behandelde alkaan-1,2-diol met de smeerolie te mengen. Wanneer concentraten bereid moeten worden, is de hoeveelheid koolwaterstofolie beperkt, evenwel voldoende om 40 de vereiste hoeveelheid met boraat behandeld alkaan-1,2-diol op te 8203033 « * -5- lossen. In het algemeen zal het concentraat voldoende met boraat behandeld diol bevatten om de daarop volgende verdunning met de 1 tot 10-voudige hoeveelheid smeerolie mogelijk te maken.
Als andere ui tvo eringsvorm van de onderhavige uitvinding 5 bevatten de smeerolign, waaraan de met boraat behandelde 1,2-alkaan-diolen zijn toegevoegd, een alkalimetaal- of aardalkalimetaalkool-waterstofsulfonaat, een alkalimetaal- of aardalkalimetaalfenaat of mengsels daarran, een zout van een dikoolwaterstofdithiofosfaat van een metaal van groep II van het periodiek systeem en een alke-10 nylsuceinimide of -succinaat of mengsels daarvan.
Be alkalimetaal- of aardalkalimetaalkoolwaterstofsulfonaten kunnen aardoliesulfonaat, synthetisch gealkyleerde aromatische sul-fonaten of alifatische sulfonaten zijn, zoals die afkomstig van polyisobuteen. Een van de meer belangrijke functies van de sulfo-15 naten is de functie ervan als detergerend middel en als disperge-rend middel. Eeze sulfonaten zijn in de techniek bekend. Ee kool-waterstofgroep dient een voldoende aantal koolstofatomen te bevatten om het sulfonaatmolecuul in olie oplosbaar te maken. Bij voorkeur bevat het koolwaterstofdeel ten minste 20 koolstofatomen en kan aro-20 matisch of alifatisch zijn, maar is gevoonlijk alkylaromatisch.
Yoor toepassing het meest de voorkeur verdienen calcium-, magnesinm-of barinmsulfonaten, die aromatisch in karakter zijn.
Bepaalde sulfonaten worden gewoonlijk bereid door sulfone-ring van een aardoliefractie met aromatische groepen, gewoonlijk 25 mono- of dialkylbenzeengroepen gevolgd door vorming van het metaal-zout van het sulfonzuurprodukt. Tot andere toevoeren, die voor de bereiding van deze sulfonaten gebruikt worden behoren synthetisch gealkyleerde benzenen en alifatische koolwaterstoffen bereid door polymerisatie van een mono- of dialkeen, bijvoorbeeld een polyiso-30 butenylgroep bereid door polymerisatie van isobuteen. Be metaal-zouten worden direkt of door metathesis onder toepassing van beken-de methoden gevormd.
Be sulfonaten kunnen neutraa! of overbasisch zijn met base-getallen tot ongeveer 400 of hoger. Eooldioxyde is het meest ge-35 bruikelijk toegepaste materiaal voor de bereiding van de basische of overbasische sulfonaten. Mengsels van neutrale en overbasische zouten kunnen gebruikt worden. Be sulfonaten worden gewoonlijk gebruikt om 0,3 tot .10 gew.JX) van de totale samenstelling uit te maken.
Bij voorkeur zijn de neutrale sulfonaten aanwezig van 0,4 tot 5 gew.$> 40 van de totale samenstelling en de overbasische sulfonaten zijn aan- 8203033 -6- wezig van 0,3 tot 3 gew.% van de totale samenstelling.
De fenolaten voor toepassing bij de onderhavige uitvinding zijn die gebruikelijke produkten, die de alkalimetaal- of aard-alkalimetaalzouten van gealkyleerde fenolen zijn. Een van de func-5 ties van de fenolaten is bun werking als detergerend en dispergerend middel. De fenolaten voarkomen onder andere de afzetting van veront-reinigingen, die gevormd worden gedurende het bedrijf bij hoge tem-peratuur van de motor. De fenolen kunnen gemono- of gepolyalkyleerd zijn.
10 Het alkyldeel van de alkylfenolaten is aanwezig om olie-oplos- baarheid aan bet fenolaat te verlenen. Het alkyldeel kan verkregen worden van in de natuur voorkomende of syntbetiscbe bronnen. Tot in de natuur voorkomende bronnen behoren aardoliekoolwaterstoffen, zoals witte olie en was. Indien afkomstig van aardolie is bet kool-15 waterstofdeel een mengsel van verscbillende koolwaterstofgroepen, waarvan de specifieke samenstelling afhangt van de bijzondere olie-voorraden, die als uitgangsprodukt werden gebruikt. Tot syntbetiscbe bronnen beboren verscbillende in de bandel verkrijgbare alkenen en alkaanderivaten die, indien omgezet met bet fenol, een alkylfenol 20 geven. Tot gesebikt verkregen groepen beboren butyl, bexyl, octyl, decyl, dodecyl, bexadecyl, eicosyl, tricontyl en dergelijke. Tot andere gescbikte bronnen van de alkylgroep beboren alkeenpolymeren, zoals polypropeen, polybuteen, polyisobuteen en dergelijke.
De alkylgroep kan recbt of vertakt, verzadigd of onverzadigd 25 (indien onverzadigd bij voorkeur niet meer dan twee en in bet alge-meen niet meer dan 64n plaats van etheniscb' onverzadigdbeid) zijn.
De alkylgroepen zullen in het algemeen 4-30 koolstofatomen bevat-ten. In bet algemeen dient, wanneer bet fenol monoalkyl gesubstitu-eerd is, de alkylgroep ten minste 8 koolstofatomen te bevatten.
30 Het fenolaat kan desgewenst gezwaveld worden. Het kan neutraal of overbasiscb zijn en zal indien overbasisch een basegetal van ten boogste 200 tot 300 of meer hebben. Mengsels van neutrale en over-basiscbe fenolaten kunnen gebruikt worden.
De fenolaten zijn gewoonlijk in de olie aanwezig om 0,2 tot 35 27 gew.% van de totale samenstelling uit te maken. Bij voorkeur zijn de neutrale fenolaten aanwezig van 0,2 tot 9 gew.% van de totale samenstelling en zijn de overbasiscbe fenolaten aanwezig van 0,2 tot 13 gev.% van de totale samenstelling. Het meest bij voorkeur zijn de fenolaten aanwezig van 0,2 tot 5 gew.% van de totale samenstelling.
40 Metalen die de voorkeur verdienen zijn calcium, magnesium, strontium 8203033 r ·> -7- barium.
De gezwavelde aardalkalimetaalalkylifenolaten verdienen de voorkeur. Deze zouten worden verkregen volgens verschillende werk-wijzen, zoals behandeling van het neutralisatieprodukt van een aard-5 alkalimetaalbase en een alkylfenol met zwavel. Doelmatig wordt de zwavel in elementaire vorm toegevoegd aan het neutralisatieprodukt en bij verhoogde temperaturen omgezet om de gezwavelde aardalkali-metaalalkylfenolatEn voort te brengen.
Wanneer meer aardalkalimetaalbase werd toegevoegd tijdens 10 de neutrailsatiereactie dan noodzakelijk was om het fenol te neutra-liseren, wordt een basisch gezwaveld aardalkalimetaalalkyifenaat verkregen. Zie bijvoorbeeld de werkwijze volgens het imerikaanse octrooischrift 2.680*096. Extra alkaliteit kan verkregen worden door toevoeging van kooldioxyde aan het basische gezwavelde aard-15 alkalimetaalalkylfenolaat.be overmaat aardalkalimetaalbase kan ver-volgens worden toegevoegd aan de zwavelingstrap, maar wordt gewoon-lijk tegelijkertijd toegevoegd wanneer de aardalkalimetaalbase wordt toegevoegd om het fenol te neutraliseren.
Kooldioxyde is het meest gebruikelijk toegepaste produkt om 20 de basische of "overbasische" fenolkiaa voort te brengen. Een werk-wijze, waarbij basische gezwavelde aardalkalimetaalalkylfenolaten worden bereid door toevoeging van kooldioxyde is beschreven in het imerikaanse octrooischrift 3.178.368.
3)e zouten van dikoolwaterstofdithiofosforzuren van metalen 25 van groep II van het periodiek systeem vertonen slijt-, antioxyda-tie- en thermische stabilitei.tseigenschappen. Zouten van fosfor-dithiozuren van metalen van groep II zijn eerder beschreven. Zie bijvoorbeeld het Imerikaanse octrooischrift 3-590.080, kolommen 6 en 7, waarin deze verbindingen en hun bereiding in het algemeen 30 zijn beschreven. Op geschikte wijze bevatten de zouten van de dikoolwaterstofdithiofosforzuren van metalen van groep II van het periodiek systeem, die geschikt zijn voor de smeeroliesamenstelling van de onderhavige uitvinding, ongeveer 4 tot ongeveer 12 koolstof-atomen in elk van de koolwaterstofgroepen en deze kunnen gelijk of 35 verschillend zijn en kunnen aromatisch, alifatisch of cycloalifa-tisch zijn. Koolwaterstofgroepen, die de voorkeur verdienen, zijn alkylgroepen, die 4-8 koolstofatomen bevatten en worden voorgesteld door butyl, isobutyl, sec.butyl, hexyl, isohexyl, octyl, 2-ethyl-hexyl en dergelijke. Tot de metalen, die voor de vorming van deze 40 zouten geschikt zijn, behoren barium, calcium, strontium, zink en 8203033 -8- cadmium, waarvan zink de voorkeur verdient.
Bij voorkeur heeft het zout van een dikoolwaterstofdithio-fosforzuur van een metaal van groep II van het periodiek systeem de formule 3, waarin 5 e. Rg en elk onafhankelijk van elkaar koolwaterstofgroepen voor-stellen zoals hiervoor heschreven en f. een kation van een metaal van groep II van het periodiek systeem voorstelt zoals hiervoor heschreven.
Het dithiofosforzuurzout is in de smeeroliesamenstellingen 10 van de onderhavige uitvinding aanwezig in een werkzame hoeveelheid om slijtage en oxydatie van de smeerolie te remmen. Be hoeveelheid varieert van ongeveer 0,1 tot ongeveer 4 gew,% van de totale samen-stelling, hij voorkeur is het zout aanwezig in een hoeveelheid die varieert van ongeveer 0,2 tot ongeveer 2,5 gew.% van de totale 15 smeeroliesamenstelling. Be uiteindelijke smeeroliesamenstelling zal gewoonlijk 0,025 tot 25 gew,% fosfor en hi;j voorkeur 0,05 tot 15 gew.$ hevatten.
Het alkenylsuccinimide of -succinaat of mengsels daarvan is onder andere aanwezig om dienst te doen als dispergerend middel 20 en de vorming van afzettingen, gevormd gedurende het hedrijf van de motor, te voorkomen. Be alkenylsuccinimiden en -succinaten zijn hekend. Be alkenylsuccinimiden zijn het reactieprodukt van een polyalkeenpolymeer-gesuhstitueerd hamsteenzuur met een anhydride, hij voorkeur een polyalkyleenpolyamine en de alkenylsuooinaten zijn 25 het reactieprodukt van een polyaikeenpolymeer-gesubstitueeerd hamsteenzuur met eenwaardige en veelwaardige alcoholen, fenolen en naftolen, hij voorkeur een veelwaardige alcohol, die ten minste drie hydroxylgroepen hevat. Be polyalkeenpolymeer-gesuhstitueerde harnsteenzuuranhydriden worden verkregen door reactie van een poly-30 alkeenpolymeer of een derivaat ervan met maleinezuuranhydride. Het aldus verkregen harnsteenzuuranhydride wordt omgezet met het amine of de hydroxylverbinding. Be hereiding van de alkenylsuccinimiden is vele malen in de literatuur heschreven. Zie hijvoorbeeld de imerikaanse octrooischriften 3*390.082, 3*219*666 en 3*172.892. Be 35 hereiding van de alkenylsuooinaten is eveneens in de literatuur heschreven. Zie hijvoorheeld de Amerikaanse octrooischriften 3.381.022 en 3.522.179.
Bijzonder goede resultaten worden verkregen met de smeeroliesamenstellingen van de onderhavige xiitvinding, wanneer het alkenyl-40 succinimide of -succinaat een polyisohuteen-gesuhstitueerd1 hamsteen- 8203033 -9- zuuramhydride of een polyalkyleenpolyamine of veelwaardige alcohol is.
Het polyisohuteen wordt verkregen door polymerisatie van isohuteen en kan in zijn samenstellingen aanzienlijk variSren. Het 5 gemiddelde aantal koolstofatomen kan variSren van 30 of minder tot 250 of meer met een resulterend aantal gemiddelde molecuulgewicht van ongeveer 400 of minder tot 3000 of meer. Bij voorkeur zal het gemiddelde aantal koolstofatomen per polyi sobuteenmolecuul variSren van ongeveer 50 tot ongeveer 100, waarbij de polyisobutenen een aan-10 tal gemiddelde molecuulgewicht bezitien van ongeveer 600 tot ongeveer 1500. Meer bij voorkeur varieert het gemiddelde aantal koolstofatomen per polyisobuteenmolecuul van ongeveer 60 tot ongeveer 90 en varieert het aantal gemiddelde molecuulgewicht van ongeveer 800 tot 13ΟΟ. Het polyisohuteen wordt met maleinezuuranhydride 15 omgezet volgens bekende werkwijzen voor het verkrijgen van de poly-isobuteen-gesubstitueerde barasteenzuuranhydriden.
Bij de bereiding van het alkenylsuccinimide wordt het ge-substitueerde barnsteenzuuranhydride omgezet met een polyalkyleenpolyamine voor het verkrijgen van het overeenkomstige succinimide.
20 Elke alkyleengroep van het polyalkyleenpolyamine bevat gewoonlijk ten hoogste ongeveer 8 koolstofatomen. Het aantal alkyleengroepen kan variSren tot ongeveer 8. Yoorbeelden van de alkyleengroep zijn ethyleen, propyleen, butyleen, trimethyleen, tetramethyleen, penta-methyleen, hexamethyleen, octamethyleen, enz. Het aantal amino-25 groepen is in het algemeen, evenwel niet noodzakelijkerwijze, SSn groter dan het aantal in het amine aanwezige alkyleengroepen, d.w.z. wanneer een polyalkyleenpolyamine 3 alkyleengroepen bevat, zal het gewoonlijk vier aminogroepen bevatten. Het aantal aminogroepen kan variSren tot ongeveer 9· Bij voorkeur bevat de alkyleengroep onge-30 veer 2 tot ongeveer 4 koolstofatomen en zio'n alle aminogroepen pri-mair of secondair. In dit geval overschrijdt het aantal aminegroe-pen het aantal alkyleengroepen met 1, Bij voorkeur bevat het polyalkyleenpolyamine 3-5 aminogroepen. Tot specifieke voorbeelden van de polyalkyleenpolyaminen behoren ethyleendiamine, diethyleentria-35 mine, triethyleentetramine, propyleendiamine, tripropyleentetrami-ne, tetraethyleenpentamine, trimethyleendiamine, pentaethyleenhexa-mine, di-(trimethyleeij)Sriamine, tri(hexamethyleer^tetramine, enz.
Tot andere aminen, die voor de bereiding van het alkenylsuccinimide, dat bio de onderhavige uitvinding wordt gebruikt, ge-40 schikt zijn behoren de cyclische aminen zoals piperazine, morfoline 8203033 4 -10- en dipiperazinen.
Bij voorkeur heBBen de alkenylsuccinimiden, die in de sa-menstellingen van de onderhavige uitvinding worden geBruikt, de al-gemene formule 4» waarin 5 a* R.j een alkenylgroep voorstelt, Bij voorketir een nagenoeg verzadigde koolwaterstof Bereid door polymerisatie van alifatisohe monoalkenen. Bij voorkeur wordt Bereid uit isoButeen en heeft een gemiddeld aantal koolstofatomen en een aantal gemiddelde mole-cuulgewicht zoals hiervoor Beschreven, 10 B. de "alkyleen"groep stelt in wezen een koolwaterstofgroep voor, die ten hoogste 8 koolstofatomen Bevat en Bij voorkeur onge-veer 2-4 koolstofatomen Bevat zoals hiervoor Beschreven, c. A stelt een koolwaterstofgroep, een met amine gesuBsti-tueerde koolwaterstofgroep of waterstof voor. De koolwaterstofgroep 15 en de met amine gesuBstitueerde koolwaterstofgroepen zijn in het al-gemeen de alkyl en met amino gesuBstitueerde alkylanalogen van de . hiervoor Beschreven alkyleengroepen. Bij voorkeur stelt A waterstof voor, d. n stelt een geheel getal van ongeveer 1 tot 10 en Bij 20 voorkeur van ongeveer 3 tot 5·
Het alkenylsuccinimide kan met Boorzuur of een soortgelijke Boor Bevattende verBinding worden omgezet voor de vorming van de met Boraat Behandelde dispergeermiddelen met . toepasBaarheid Bij de onderhavige uitvinding. De met Boraat Behandelde suceinimiden 25 vallen Binnen de omvang van de uitdrukking '‘alkenylsuccinimide’*.
De alkenylsuccinaten zi jn die van het hiervoor Beschreven Bamsteenzuuranhydride met hydroxylverBindingen, die alifatisohe verBindingen kunnen zijn zoals eenwaardige en veelwaardige alcoho-len of aromatische verBindingen zoals fenolen en naftolen. De aro-30 matische hydroxylverBindingen, waaruit de esters kunnen worden ver-kregen worden toegelicht door de volgende specifieke voorBeelden: fenol, Beta-naftol, alfa-naftol, cresol, resorcinol, catechol, ρ,ρ'-dihydroxyBifenyl, 2-chloorfenol, 2,4-cliButylfenol, propeente-trameer gesuBstitueerd fenol, didocecylfenol, 4»4'-methyleen-Bis-35 fenol, alfa-decyl-Beta-naftol, polyisoButeen (molecuulgewicht 1000)-gesuBstitueerd fenol, het condensatieprodukt van heptylfenol met 0,5 mol formaldehyd, het condensatieprodukt van octylfenol met ace-ton, di(hydroxyfenyl)oxyde, di(hydroxyfenyl)sulfide, di(hydroxyfe-nyl)disulfide en 4-cydohexylfenol. Penol en gealkyleerde fenolen 40 met ten hoogste drie alkylsuBstituenten verdienen de voorkeur. Elk 8203033 Ίψτ- · -- : -· -11- van de alkylsubstituenten kan 100 of meer koolstofatomen bevatten.
Be alcoholen, waaruit de esters kunnen worden verkregen, bevatten bij voorkeur ten hoogste 40 alifatisohe koolstofatomen.
Zij kunnen eenwaardige alooholen zijn zoals methanol, ethanol, 5 isooctanol, dodeoanol, cyclohexanol, cyclopentanol, behenylalcohol, hexatriacontanol, neopentylaloohol, isobutylalcohol, benzylalcohol, betafenylethyl alcohol, 2-methylcyclohexanol, beta-chloorethanol, monomethylether van ethyleenglyool, monobutylether van ethyleen-glycol, monopropylether van diethyleenglycol, monododeoylether van 10 triethyleenglycol, monooleaat van ethyleenglyool, monostearaat van diethyleenglycol, sec.pentylalcohol, tert.butylalcohol, 5-broom-do decanol, nitrooetadecanol en dioleaat van glycerol. Be veelwaar-. dige alooholen bevatten bij voorkeur 2 tot ongeveer 10 hydroxylgroe- pen. Voorbeelden hiervan zijns ethyleenglyool, diethyleenglycol, 15 triethyleenglycol, tetraethyleenglycol, dipropyleenglycol, tripropyl eenglycol, dibutyleenglycol, tributyleenglycol en andere alky-leenglycolen, waarin de alkyleengroep 2 tot ongeveer 8 koolstofatomen bevat. Tot andere geschikte veelwaardige alcoholen behoren glycerol, monooleaat van glycerol, monomethylether van glycerol, 20 pentraerytritol, 9,1O-dihydroxystearinezuur, methylester van 9»10-dihydroxystearinezuur, 1,2-butaandiol, 2,5-hexaandiol, 2,4-hexaan-diol, pinacol, erytritol, arabitol, sorbitol, mannitol, 1,2-cyclo-hexaandiol en xyleenglycol. Eoolhydraten zoals suikers, zetmeel-produkten, cellulose produkten, enz., kunnen eveneens esters geven. 25 Toorbeelden van koolhydraten zijn glyco.se, fructose, sucrose, rham-nose, mannose, glyceraldehyd en galactose.
Een groep veelwaardige alcoholen, die bijzonder de voorkeur verdient, zijn de alcoholen met ten minste drie hydroxylgroepen, waarvan sommige veresterd zijn met een monocarbonzuur met ongeveer 50 8 tot ongeveer 30 koolstofatomen zoals octaanzuur, oliezuur, stea- rinezuur, linoleenzuur, dodecaanzuur of talloliezuur. Toorbeelden van dergelijke partieel veresterde veelwaardige alcoholen zijn monooleaat van sorbitol, distearaat van sorbitol, monooleaat van glycerol, monostearaat van glycerol, di-dodecanoaat van erytritol.
35 Be esters kunnen eveneens zijn afgeleid van onverzadigde alcoholen zoals allylalcohol, kaneelalcohol, propargylalcohol, 1-eyclohexeen-3-ol en oleylalcohol. Nog andere groepen van de alcoholen, die in staat zijn de esters van de onderhavige uitvinding te geven, omvatten de ether-alcoholen en amino-alcoholen met inbe-40 grip van bijvoorbeeld de oxyaikyleen-, oxy-aryleen-, amino-alkyleen- 8203033 -12- en amino-aryleen-gesubstitueerde alcoholen met een of meer oxy-alkyleen, amino-alkyleen or amino-aryleen, oxy-aryleen groepen. Yoorbeelden hiervan zijn Cellosolve, carbitol, f enosy-ethanol, heptylfenyl-(oxypropyleen)g-H, octyl(oxyethyleen)^Q-H, fenyl(oxy-5 octyleen)2-H, mono(heptylfenyl-oxypropyleen)-gesubstitueerd glycerol, poly(styreen oxyde), amino-ethanol, 3-amino-ethylpentanol, di (hydroxyethyl)amine, p-aminofenol, tri(hydroxypropyl) amine, N-hydroxyethylethyleendiamine, ΪΤ,Ν,Ν1,Ν'-1etrahydroxytrimethyleen-diamine en dergelijke. Yoor het grootste deel verdienen de ether-10 alcoholen met ten hoogste ongeveer 150 oxy-alkyleengroepen, waarin de alkyleengroep 1 tot ongeveer 8 koolstofatomen hevat, de voor-keur.
De esters kunnen diesters van bamsteenzuren of zure esters zijn, d.w.z. partieel verestercle bamsteenzuren, alsmede partieel 15 veresterde veelwaardige alcoholen of fenolen, d.w.z. esters met vrije alcoholische of fenolische hydroxylgroepen. Mengsels van de hiervoor toegelichte esters vallen eveneens hinnen het.kader van de uitvinding.
De alkenylsuccinaten kunnen met boorzuur of soortgelijke 20 boor bevattende verbindingen worden omgezet voor de vorming van de met boraat behandelde dispergeermiddelen met toepasbaarheid bij de onderhavige uitvinding. Dergelijke met boraat behandelde succina-ten zijn in het Merikaanse ootrooischrift 3*555»945 beschreven.
De met boraat behandelde succinaten vallen binnen het kader van de 25 uitdrukking "alkenylsuccinaat".
De alkenylsuccinimiden en -succinaten zijn in de smeerolie-samenstellingen van de uitvinding aanwezig in een werkzame hoeveel-heid om dienst te doen als dispergeermiddel en de afzetting van verontreinigingen, gevormd in de olie gedurende het bedrijf van de 30 motor, te voorkomen. De hoeveelheid alkenylsuccinimide en -succinaten kan variSren van ongeveer 1% tot ongeveer 20 gew.% van de totale smeeroliesamenstelling. Bij voorkeur varieert de hoeveelheid alkenylsuccinimide of -succinaat, aanwezig in de smeeroliesamenstelling van de uitvinding, van ongeveer 1 tot ongeveer 10 gew.% van de to-35 tale samenstelling.
De uiteindelijke smeerolie kan single- of multigrade zijn. Multigrade smeeroliSn worden bereid door toevoeging van viscositeits-index (Yl) verbeteringsmiddelen. Gebruikelijke viscositeitsindex-verbeteringsmiddelen zijn polyalkylmethacrylaten, etheen-propeen-40 copolymeren, styreen-dieencopolymeren en dergelijke. Zogenaamde 8203033 •φ ^ -13- gedecoreerde VI verbeteringsmiddelen met zowel viscositeitsindex als dispergerende eigenschappen, zijn eveneens geschikt voor toepassing in de formaleringen van de onderhavige uitvinding.
De smeerolie, die in de samenstellingen van de onderhavige 5 uitvinding wordt gebruikt, kan een minerale olie of synthetische olien zijn met een viscositeit, geschikt voor toepassing in het carter van een verbrandingsmotor. CartersmeeroliSn hebben gewoonlijk een viscositeit van ongeveer 1300 cS bij -17,8°C tot 22,7 cS bij 99°C. De smeeroliSn kunnen afkomstig zijn van synthetische of natuurlijke Ί0 bronnen. Tot minerale oliSn voor toepassing als basisolie bij de onderhavige uitvinding behoren paraffineachtige, nafteenachtige en andere oliSn, die gewoonlijk in smeeroliesamenstelling gebruikt worden. Tot synthetische oliSn behoren zowel synthetische koolwater-stofoliSn als synthetische esters· Tot geschikte synthetische kool-15 waterstofolign behoren vloeibare polymeren van alfa-alkenen met de geschikte viscositeit. Bijzonder geschikt zijn de gehydrogeneerde vloeibare oligomeren van alfa-alkenen zoals 1-deoeentrimeer.
Eveneens kunnen alkylbenzenen van geschikte viscositeit, zoals didodecylbenzeen, gebruikt worden. Tot geschikte synthetische es?* 20 ters behoren de esters van zowel monocarbonzuren als polycarbonzu-ren, alsmede monohydroxyalkanolen en polyolen. Gebruikelijke voor-beelden zijn didodecyladipaat, pentaerythritoltetracaproaat, di-2-ethylhexyladipaat, dilaurylsebacaat en dergelijke. Gomplexe esters bereid uit mengsels van mono- en dicarbonzuren en mono- en dihydro-25 xyalkanolen kunnen eveneens gebruikt worden.
Mengsels van koolwaterstofoliSn met synthetische oli§n zijn eveneens geschikt. Bijvoorbeeld geeft een mengsel van 10 tot 25 gev.% gehydrogeneerd 1-deceentrimeer met 75 tot 90 gew.% 150 STJS (37j8°C) minerale olie een uitstekende smeeroliebasis.
30 Toevoegselconcentraten vallen eveneens binnen het kader van .de onderhavige uitvinding. In het concentraat is het met boraat behandelde vetzuur van glycerol aanwezig in een concentratie, die varieert van 5 tot 50 gew.JXj.
Tot andere toevoegsels, die in de formulering aanwezig kun-35 nen zijn, behoren roestremmers, schxiimremmers, corrosieremmers, metaaldesactiveringsmiddelen, gietpuntverlagende middelen, anti-oxydantia en een verscheidenheid van andere bekende toevoegsels.
Yoorbeeld I
Een reactiekolf van vijf liter werd gevuld met 1050 g 40 (4 mol) 0^_1Q alkaan-1,2-cLiol, 272 g (4*4 mol) boorzuur en'1500 g 8203033 Λ w -14- xyleen. Ξet geroerde reactiemengsel werd 90 uren onder reflux ver-warmd. Aan het einde van deze periode waren 191 ml water verzameld. Het reactiemengsel werd gekoeld, gefiltreerd en het oplosmiddel werd onder vacuum verwijderd, waarbij 1158 g produkt werden verkre-5 gen, die 6,3% boor bevatten.
Yoorbeeld II
Proeven werden uitgevoerd om de verbeteringen in brandstof-economie verkregen door de toevoeging van de smeeroliesamenstellin-gen van de onderhavige uitvinding aan het carter van een automotor 10 te demonstreren.
Bij deze proef werd een 550 CID Oldsmobile-motor op een dynamometer bedreven. Ben motoroliSnd systeem werd bedacht om een geschikte smering bij de motor te verschaffen en eveneens de moge-lijkheid te verschaffen de olie zonder het stoppen van de motor te 15 veranderen. Als basis werd een droog oliereservoirsysteem gebruikt met een externe pomp, die smering aan de motor geeft. Deze pomp was met kleppen verbonden aan vier uitwendige oliereservoirs. De plaatsing van de kleppen bepaalde de gebruikte olie.
Deze proef werd erikele malen herhaald onder constante om-20 standigheden met basisolie en vervolgens met dezelfde olie, die 0,5» 1 en 2 gew.% van het met boraat behandelde 1,2-alkaan- diol bereid volgens voorbeeld I bevatte. De percentages verbeteringen in brandstofeconomie onder toepassing van de samenstellingen volgens de uitvinding in vergelijking met de basisolie is in tabel 25 A vermeld.

De hiervoor beschreven vergelijkingen werden uitgevoerd 35 met volledig geformuleerde Chevron 20H/80N olie,die 3,5% van een polyisobutenylsuccinimide van tetraethyleenpentamine, 30 mmol/ kg overbasisch magnesiumkoolwaterstofsulfonaat, 20 mmol/kg overba-sisch gezwaveld calciumpolypropeenfenaat, 18 mmol/kg zink 0,0-di (2-ethylhexyl)dithiofosfaat en 5,5% van een YI verbeteringsmiddel 8203033 ^ * -15- op polymethaerylaatbasis bevat.
Ook zijn geformuleerde carteroliSn, die elk 2 geu.% met boraat behandeld q-C^q 1> 2-alkaandiol, met boraat behandeld 1,2-dodecaandiol of met boraat behandeld 1,2-hexadecaandiol in plaats 5 van het met boraat behandelde C^-C^g 1,2-alkaandiol van voor-beeld I in de hiervoor vermelde formuleringen bevatten, werkzaam bij het verminderen van het brandstofverbruik in een verbrandings-motor.
Toorbeeld III
10 Geformuleerde oliSn, die 1 ge-w.% van het met boraat behan- t delde C^-C^g alkaandiol van voorbeeld I bevatten, werden bereid en onderzocht bij een volgorde HID proefmethode (volgens ASTM Special Technical Publication 315Ξ) en een L-38 motorproef.
De vergeli jkingen bij elke proef werden gedaan in een ge-15 formuleerde base en EPM 10WJO, die 3 »5% van een polyisobutenyl-succinimide van triethyleentetramine, 30 mmol/kg overbasisch mag-nesiumkoolwaterstofsulfonaat, 20 mmol/kg overbasisch gezwaveld alkylfenol, 18 mmol/kg zink di(2-ethylhexyl)dithiofosfaat en 5,5% van een vis cositeit sindexverbeteringsmi ddel op polymethacrylaat-20 basis bevat.
A. Tolgorde HID nroef.
Het doel van deze proef is het effekt te bepalen van de toevoegsels op de oxydatiesnelheid van de olie en de tand- ®. -vd(gep-slijtage in de klepreeks van een verbrandingsmotor bij relatief 25 hoge temperaturen (temperatuur van de oliemassa tijdens de proef 149°C).
Bij deze proef werd een Oldsmobile 350 CID motor onder de volgende omstandigheden bedreveni bedrijf bij 3000 omwentelingen per minuut/maximum bedrijfstijd ge-30 durende 64 uren en 45 kg belasting, lucht/brandstof* verhouding = 16,5/1, onder toepassing van a GMR referentiebrandstof (loodhoudend), ontstekingstijdstip = 31° voor het bovenste dode punt, olietemperatuur = 150°0, 35 koelmi ddel temperatuur in = 113°0 - uit 118,5°C, 7,62 cm water tegendruk op ventilator, stroomsnelheid van het koelmiddel in de mantel = 227 liter/min*, stroomsnelheid van het koelmiddel in het klepdeksel = 11,4 liter/ min., 40 de vochtigheid dient op 80 druppels water te worden gehouden, 8203033

-16- geregelde luchttemperatuur gelijk inlaat gelijk 26,7°C, omloopontluehting warmteuitwisselaar bij 37,.8°C.
De doelmatigheid van liet toevoegsel wordt gemeten na 64 uren uitgedrukt in nok- en volgerslijtage en toename in het percentage 5 viscositeit. De resultaten zijn in tabel B gegeven.

Deze proef wordt gedurende 40 nren uitgevoerd onder toepas-20 sing van een 1-cylinder OLE motor met een motorsnelheid van 3150 omwentelingen per minuut. Het doel van de proef is te bepalen of de toevoegsels corrosief zijn ten opzichte van koper-loodlagers.
De resultaten zijn in tabel C gegeven.

Claims (4)
1. Smeerolie, geformuleerd voor toepassing in het carter van een verbrandingsmotor om het brandstofverbruik van de motor te - verbeteren, gekenmerkt door de aanwezigheid van 5 (a) een overwegende hoeveelheid van een olie met smeringsviscositeit en (*) een werkzame hoeveelheid van elk van de volgende bestanddelen: 1-. een alkenylsuocinimide of alkenylsuccinaat of mengsels daarvan, 2. een zout van een dikoolwaterstofdithiofosforzuur van een metaal 10 van groep II van het periodiek systeem, 3· een neutraa! of overbasisoh alkalimetaal- of aardalkalimetaalkool-waterstofsulfonaat of mengsels ervan, 4. een neutraal of overbasisoh alkalimetaal- of aardalkalimetaal gealkyleerd fencdaafc of mengsels daarvan, 15 5· een met boraat behandeld 1,2-alkaandiol met large keten als wrijvingsmodificeermiddel met formule 1, waarin R een alkylgroep is die 8-28 koolstofatomen bevat en mengsels daarvan.
2. Smeerolieformulering volgens conclusie 1, m e t het k e n m e r k, dat 20 (l) het alkenylsucoinimide een polyisobutenylsuccinimide van een polyalkyleenpolyamine is en het alkenylsuccinaat een polyisobute-nylsuccinaat van een veelwaardige alcohol is, (2) het metaalzout van het dikoolwaterstofdithiofosforzuur een zirik-dialkyldithiofosfaat is, waarin de alkylgroep 4-12 koolstofatomen 25 bevat, (3) het metaal van het neutrale of overbasische alkalimetaal- of aardalkalimetaalsulfonaat calcium, magnesium of barium of mengsels daarvan is, (4) het metaal van het neutrale of overbasische alkalimetaal- of 30 aardalkalimetaalfenaat calcium, magnesium of barium is, (5) de groep R van het met boraat behandelde 1,2-alkaandiol een alkylgroep is, die 8-18 koolstofatomen bevat.
3· Smeerolieformulering volgens conclusie 1, m e t het k e n m e r k, dat 35 (1) het alkenylsuccinimide een polyisobutenylsuccinimide van triethyleentetramine of een polyisobutenylsuccinimide van tetra-ethyleenpentamine is en het alkenylsuccinaat een polyisobutenyl-succinaat van pentaerythritol is, (2) het metaalzout van het dikoolwaterstofdithiofosforzuur zink 40 0,0-di(2-ethylhe2yl)dithiofosfaat, zink 0,0-di(isobutyl/gemengd 8203033 , V -18- primair hexyl)dithio f o sfaat of zink 0,O-di(sec.hutyl/gemengd secon-dair hexyl)dithiofosfaat is, (3) het metaalzout van het sulfonaat een overhasisch magnesium- of calciumkoolwaterstofstilfonaat is, 5 (4) het metaalzout van het fenaat een overhasisch gezwaveld calcium- of een magnesiummono gealkyleerd fenaat is, (5) de groep E van het 1,2-alkaandiol een mengsel is van alkylgroe-pen, die 13-16 koolstofatomen hevatten.
4. Werkwijze voor het verminderen van het hrandstofverhruik 10 van een motor, met het kenmerk, dat men de hewegen-de oppervlakken daarvan hehandelt met een samenstelling volgens conclusie 1. 8203033
