Abstract

The turbine is of the constant rotation speed type and is used to drive a single stage compressor rotor which enables a pressure enhancement of about 25:1 to be obtained. The turbine itself is driven by hot gas combustion products in the temperature range between 1120 C to 1650 C, with high velocity. The turbine rotor has a number of thin circular discs arranged parallel with one another and at an angle to the main axle, which passes through the centre of the compressor to a geared drive. The latter motivates the compressor rotor which is formed into a number of lobes, mounted in a spiral housing and with air inlet ducts leading to a diffuser with outlets within the lobes.
