Abstract
In a domestic electric steam iron, the water supply is fed by a rubber ball in the hand grip, with a main steam chamber located in the ironing base plate with thick metal layers, conducting heat from the ironing base plate to the chamber. The steam follows labyrinth paths on either side with a number of heated surfaces. A lower steam chamber, has two connecting apertures, to the main chamber the lower chamber being sealed by a removable thermal conductive plate which is an insert in the ironing base plate and acts as part of the ironing surface. A regulating valve is composed of a valve stem and a pliable section coupled to the auxiliary steam unit for control of the steam through controlled water supply. The design prevents water droplets from spraying out of the iron, and also prevents loss of temp. at the ironing surface through conversion of water drops into steam.
