Abstract

A perforated drain pipe (2) is laid in a trench, after which a layer of coarse stiff granular material is used to cover it, followed by a layer of sand if necessary, the trench being finally covered with earth. The coarse-grained material (3) consists of particles of plastic foam, combined together in large numbers to form larger units with holes running right through them. The particles can be roughly saddle-shaped, joined by perforated shrunk sheet material, or they can be glued together where in contact with each other along the outside of the larger unit, or joined by material rotting in the ground, e.g. paper.
