Abstract

The purpose built drained sports ground has a level sandy copy (4) overlying a drainage bed (3) sitting on the original ground (1). Before the bed (3) is laid, drainage trenches (5) are cut into the soil at one to two metre centres in a direction parallel to the drainage of the finished level of the sports ground. At intervals the trenches (5) join large collectors (6) filled with larger filter material, cut at right angles to the trenches (5) and having drainage pipes at the bottom.
