Abstract
Turpentine hydrocarbon fraction desulphurisation in a multi-stage process comprising (a) fedding to a first stage, a turpentine fraction, stripped substantially of light ends boiling belwo alpha-pinene and contg 550 ppm S which is contacted with activated carbon until the carbon is laden to a predetermined level sorbed with sulphur cpds. and (b) regenerating the resulting sulphur-laden carbon in a plurality of steps. The first regenerative step is at a temp. (150 degrees C) and for a time suff. for removing sorbed turpentine hydrocarbon for recycle to step (1) without increasing the overall S content, of the feed stream, and the second regenerative step at a higher temp. (250-300 degrees C) for finishing the regeneration of the carbon.
