Abstract

1395211 Hydrated hepheline syenite TELLER ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEMS Inc 28 April 1972 19942/72 Heading C1A [Also in Division B1] The natural ore nepheline syenite, when treated with water, is used as a sorbing medium for removing acid gas components from a gas stream. The nepheline syenite is treated, preferably, with 10 to 50 1b of water per 100 1b of ore and then dried sufficiently e.g., by equilibration with air at 200‹ F., to increase the sorbant characteristics of the nepheline syenite for the acid gas(es). The nepheline syenite may be used located on a bag filter, fixed or moving bed or within a pipeline. Acid gases which can be removed by contacting with the treated nepheline syenite include HF, SiF 4 or SO 2 or mixtures of these.
