Abstract

Tufting of upholstery fabric for ornamentation or to secure padding, is done with a conventional button-headed fastener pushed through and secured on the rear. A special washer fitted under the head has a number of axially extending barbed prongs which penetrate the fabric. Pref. the washer is moulded in glass reinforced nylon and concealed by being of slightly smaller dia. than the head. The pin is allowed some relative movement whilst the prongs hold in the fabric and spread the load. Tearing in use is less likely even with cheaper fabrics.
