In the home, chairs and other forms of upholstered furniture will get soiled in use; and also frequently are covered with slip-covers. the slip-covers hide` the color and beauty of the original upholstery.
The primary object of the present invention is to prov1de an upholstery covering for car seats,

Other objects of the invention will be apparent hereinafter from the specification and from the recital of the appended claims.
In the drawing:
Fig. l is a perspective view of a chair having an upholstery covering made according to one embodiment of the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view on an enlarged scale of the covered seat of this chair;
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 .is a corresponding section showing a modification of the invention; and
Fig. 5 is an enlarged section showing the welt used in the modication of Fig. 4.
The chair shown in Fig. 1 has a base I0, uprights I I forming arms, a back I2 and a seat base I3. The covering of all the upholstered parts of the chair may be made according to the present invention. The construction of this covering is illustrated in detail, however, only in connection with the covering of the seat.
This covering comprises a conventional upholstery covering I5 (Fig. 3) and a transparent plastic outer covering I6. The inner and outer coverings I5 and I6 are sewed or fastened on the seat simultaneously.
'I'he welts I1 along the edges of the seat may be formed as shown in Fig. 3 by Wrapping the inner upholstering covering I5 and the outer plastic sheet I6 around a core I8 of cotton or other suitable material and sewing the inner and outer wrappings about the core as denoted at I9.
I6 are then sewed together about the core I 8 as denoted at 20 (Fig. 5). When such welts are used, the top T and the sides S, and the bottom material I5 and a piece of outer transparent plastic covering material I6. The welts Il are then sewn between adjacent inturned edges of the top, side and bottom covering sections, as shown in Fig. 4, by stitches 2 I.
The transparent plastic material used must be clear, to show up the desired inner upholstery covering; and it must be flexible so as readily to be sewn in place over the inner covering and around the welts. Any suitable plastic may be any type fabric or material conventionally employed for upholstery covering. By sewing this plastic covering in position during the covering of the upholstery, it will be held taut and thereby the conventional covering material may be seen through it, thus preserving the richness and eye-appeal of the inner covering.
While the invention has been described specifically in connection with a covering for a piece of furniture, it will be understood that the invention is applicable, as stated, to converings for automobile seats, and the like. Moreover, in cases where it is desired to cover furniture, that is already in use, with a slip-cover, the slip-cover may be made according to the present invention tions of the invention following, in general, the 2.
