Abstract

Hydrocarbon raw material for the prepn. of a petroleum resin is prepd. by (a) heating a C5 stream, which is distilled from cracked naphtha or gas oil, for =5 hrs. at a temp. of >=160 degrees C and (b) holding the C5 stream for =5 hrs. at 100-160 degrees C pref. 0.05-1.5 hrs. at 130-150 degrees C. Gives hydrocarbon raw material with a low content of cyclopentadiene. The process is very suitable for continuous operations. The material gives petroleum resins with excellent props.
