Abstract
A CH4-rich gas is produced by a process in which (a) a gaseous or vapour feedstock comprising (i) H2O and a hydrocarbon and/or O-contg. organic cpd. or (ii) at least one O-contg. organic cpd. is passed through a bed of Ni catalyst at 250 degrees C in admixture with a recycled portion of the hot gas from the catalyst bed, the circulation and mixing being effected with a vapour-driven ejector pump; (b) the non-recycled portion of the hot gas is passed through a 2nd catalyst bed in thermal contact with a coolant fluid which is itself evapd. or transfers heat to another fluid which is evapd; and (c) the vapour produced in (b) is used to drive the ejector pump. Stage (b) increases the degree of CH4 formation.
