Abstract

Transverse strips are cut from continuously moving webs of longitudinally aligned fibres or yarns by a rotating shear having one or more radially projecting blades working with the fixed knife across which the fibres are fed into the recess of the shear. The severed strips are then moved down a curved shedding plate and passed vertically downwards, possibly between rollers, to a horizontal surface, and compacted by a reciprocating plunger.
