Abstract

An offshore well riser, for use where the water depth is up to 2000 feet or more, has a relatively flexible upper portion and a lower portion whose section modulus increases progressively to a maximum adjacent in the sea bed. The riser is supported by a submerged tension float and consists of a constant diameter pipe string whose lower portion is surrounded by a tubular stiffener jacket or progressively increasing thickness.
