Abstract
An offshore drilling for oil or natural gas has between the water level and the sea bottom (at a water depth of 200-300 feet) a platform which rests on a structure of vertical tubes (four) which are braced and are anchored with their feet in the seabed. The platform contains Christmas tree structures above each tube so that the latter can be used as guides for the drilling of nests of wells. A single large-dia. tube with a conical bottom to suit the platform dia. links the latter to the working deck above water level through a flexible joint. This keeps stresses by tides, waves and wind away from the support structure. The structure also serves as a template to sink the wells in the desired pattern.
