Abstract

1,213,428. Preserving earthworks. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. AND E. A. H. NAUE K. G. ROSSHAARSPINNEREI GUMMIHAAR-UND SCHAUMPOLSTERFABRIK. 14 April, 1969 [13 April, 1968; 13 Aug., 1968; 1 Oct., 1968; 10 Feb., 1969], No. 18918/69, Heading E1H. [Also in Division D1] A mat laid upon or buried in an earthwork to minimize erosion comprises a layer of non- woven crimped polyamide, polyester or polyolefine fibres secured by stitching, fusion and/ or a binder such as natural or synthetic latex. The mat may be embossed so as to have a quilted appearance, Figs 8 and 9 (not shown). The latex may contain quartz sand or barium sulphate to strengthen the mat. Reinforcing filaments of plastics material may be superimposed upon, or incorporated in, the mat and secured by the said binder, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown). The filaments may form a lattice, Fig. 2 (not shown). When used for lining subaqueous ground the upper side of the mat may be denser than the lower one. Plant seeds may be lodged in the mat.
