Abstract

820,516. Protecting banks of dikes &c. ALGEMENE KUNSTZIJDE UNIE N.V. Jan. 29, 1957 [Feb. 22, 1956], No. 3172/57. Class 68(2) A method of protecting soil an'd slopes against washing away by water is characterized in that mats are used-whichat least partly are manufactured from linear polycondensation products, in particular polyamides. The mats are preferably formed by weaving, braiding or knitting polyamide threads of a thickness from 0.4 to 1.8 mm. or from stripsof polyamide which may be perforated and preferably have a thickness from 0.4 to mm Buoyant mats braided from osiers, reeds, &c. combined with threads of polyamides can be floated to their sinking, locality. Pairs of mats joined at Feast along two opposite edges to form mattress envelopes and filled with stones, gravel, &c. or with unfilled mats and then having their filling opening closed can be substituted for concrete or basalt blocks. The mattresses can be piled upon each other and sunk. The melting point of the linear polycondensation products is sufficiently high to allow the mats to be' coated with hot asphalt. Other linear polycondensation productswhich can be' used are e.g. polyethylene. terepthalate, and polyurethanes.
