Abstract

A revetment for a bank or other inclined surface that is liable to erosion such as a river bank or shoreline comprises a layer of pervious material 5 such as gravel or synthetic fibres, upon which lies a second reinforcement layer 6 of a fibrous material, preferably a non-woven, fabric or mesh. A number of parallel plastic tubes 1 which are filled with ballast 4 lie on the second layer transverse to the bank line and are preferably anchored to the bank at the berm. The tubes may be restrained from moving relative to each other by bands 7 passing around the tubes. The plastic tubes may all have substantially the same diameter, or alternatively, some of the tubes may be of smaller diameter than others, in which case the smaller tubes fit into the spaces formed between the larger tubes and the second reinforcement layer. <IMAGE>
