Abstract
1521785 Aerating liquids; froth flotation apparatus UNITED STATES FILTER CORP 5 May 1976 18377/76 Headings B1C and B2H Apparatus for dispersing a gas in a liquid comprises a vessel 12 in which is an impeller 46 rotated by a vertical shaft 34 and surmounted by a fixed inclined shroud 52 having radial vanes 54 on its upper surface, with apertures 56 between them located in the region of the highest pressure generated by the impeller. The impeller 46 may be detachable. Gas is supplied below the shroud by a valve 74 and a trunk 30, and emerges as bubbles through the apertures 56 in a substantially radially upward and outward direction. Stator vanes 63 below the shroud may support a diapt tube 60 in which is a propeller 58 preferably located one propeller diameter above the vessel bottom. The apparatus may be used for aerating sewage, removing oxygen by displacement by an inert gas, or (as shown) for froth flotation in which the liquid is supplied and removed through a submerged inlet and outlet, and foam is removed over adjustable weirs 22 by skimmers 26. Several such froth flotation cells may be arranged in series (Fig. 3, not shown) the relative levels being adjusted by varying the gas supply in cooperation with the adjustable weirs.
