[Also in Divisions F1 and H2] In apparatus for aerating a liquid by forcing air thereinto the air pump or blower and motor are substantially submerged in the liquid to suppress noise and vibration and the air intake is supported above the liquid surface. As shown the motor 2 and blower 4 rest on the bottom with the air intake supported by a float 6 and there is a valve (8, Fig. 1b, hot shown) to prevent back flow of water through the diffusers 7. The unit may be floated to the surface by inflating the ring 10. In other embodiments the entire unit may be supported by floats (12, Fig. 2 not shown), by its air discharge pipe (Fig. 3, not shown) or by legs which also act as air discharge pipes (Fig. 4, not shown); the diffusers (24) may also be supported by floats (25), see Fig. 5 (not shown) in which case their depth beneath the surface controls the quantity of air discharged through each. Backflow through the discharge pipe may be prevented by carrying it above the surface (see Fig. 2 and 3, not shown).
