Abstract

Mixing or rotation appts. comprises (a) a tank for holding liq. or slurry, (b) an upright draft tube disposed therein and extending into the liq. (c) an upright shaft in the tube (d) impeller blades secured to the shaft below the draft tube, (e) a downwardly inclined conical shroud located at the lower end of the draft tube extending above the blades, the shroud having holes and radially extending vanes in and on the surface thereof respectively and (f) a propeller mounted on the lower end of the shaft, which when rotated causes gas bubbles to form and flow upwards through the holes in the shroud and radially outwards towards the edge of the tank. Used for e.g. aeration, of sewage, removal of dissolved O2 from water by displacement using an inert gas, flotation sepn. of a slurry or immiscible liq. droplets in an emulsion.
