The present invention relates to a ship provided with a mast construction.
Ships with a mast construction are known from practice and comprise a hull for floating the ship with a central upright or the mast attached thereto. This mast is relatively rigid and centrally positioned in the transverse direction of the ship. Relatively flexible stays are provided from the top of the mast to the sides of the ship's hull.
With known ships and mast constructions, the entire construction is exposed to large forces, whereby not only the stays are loaded, but also a load is passed through the mast to the central point of the hull where the mast is placed. As a result of these loads, deformations of the ship may occur, which may, among other things, cause damage. A possible damage with mast constructions is the bending of the mast. A sufficient degree of rigidity of the ship is required to prevent distortion of the ship. In order to achieve the required rigidity, a relatively large mass is required in known ships. This leads to a mast construction that is not user-friendly and that must also be relatively heavy-duty. Further disadvantages concern the level of, for example, the manufacturing costs and limited flexibility of the construction.
The present invention has for its object to provide a ship with which said disadvantages are obviated.
The present invention provides a ship, comprising: - a hull for floating the ship; and - a mast construction, comprising: - at least two rigid wall members which are connected to the hull on both sides and are attached to each other in the top; and - a flexible central member which is suspended from the wall members.
By means of the above construction, in which the wall members or the stays are made relatively rigid with respect to the flexible mast, it is achieved that the occurring loads applied to the mast construction are passed on to the hull of the ship in a more efficient manner. The shape of the construction in itself contributes to the increase in the stiffness of the ship. This not only makes the ship stiffer, thereby reducing the distortion of the ship, but the total mass of the ship can also be kept minimal while sufficient rigidity is achieved.
In a preferred embodiment according to the invention, the stays have a degree of rigidity with which the mast is kept substantially vertical and loads are absorbed.
By using relatively rigid stays, consisting of, for example, steel tubes or polyester rods, compared to known ships with a mast construction, the upright, or the mast, can be made relatively flexible. In this way it is achieved that the upright in a ship according to the invention can be made with small dimensions and a relatively inexpensive material, for example steel wire. This achieves that the function of the central member is maintained when using a relatively simple, user-friendly and easily produced material. An additional advantage of the use of a flexible central member of small diameter is that the wind incidence at the mainsail is not hindered by the size of the mast. The surface area of the mainsail to be effectively utilized is hereby enlarged. A further additional advantage is that the mainsail can be designed in a manner similar to a roller cover. This greatly increases the ease of operation.
In a preferred embodiment according to the invention, a lattice is arranged between at least two wall members on one side of the hull. Both on the starboard and port side of the ship, the rigging can be carried out by means of at least two wall members between which a lattice structure is arranged to increase the rigidity of the construction.
This achieves that the wall members need to be made less rigid and a construction that is flexible and easy to handle is obtained. With relatively high mast constructions, these wall members are connected to each other one or more times on both sides of the ship, preferably somewhere halfway, one or more times. A great stiffness of the construction is hereby obtained. In an alternative embodiment, the truss structure is dispensed with. In order to obtain sufficient rigidity and stability for the mast construction in this case, it is moved to the front and rear of the ship by means of a stay.
In a further preferred embodiment according to the invention, the stays are pivotably mounted on the hull by means of a hinged member.
In order to make hinging of the mast construction according to the invention possible and, for example, to achieve a low underpass height via the lifting of the mast, 4 a user-friendly construction is obtained. In a further preferred embodiment according to the invention, the stays are provided with one or more hinges, placed between the two ends of the wall member, in order to keep the mast construction compact in the ironed state. By providing the wall members with these extra hinges, it can be prevented that during the ironing of the mast construction this construction will for a large part end up outside the hull of the ship and thereby become less manageable and also less safe to use. A further advantage of such a construction is that a framework is created with which, for example using a sail, a tent can be obtained, for the purpose of, for example, overnight on the ship.
In a further preferred embodiment according to the invention the ship is provided with a coupling member for coupling the mast to the keel for rotating the keel and mast construction relative to the hull in the longitudinal axis of the ship.
By means of rotating the keel with the mast construction about the longitudinal axis of the hull it is ensured that the keel with the mast construction can rotate about the said axis regardless of the position of the people on board the ship. As a result, it is achieved that the persons on board remain substantially upright, that is to say that the persons on board do not hang obliquely while sailing the ship.
The invention also relates to a keel construction for a ship provided with a hull, comprising: - a coupling member for coupling a keel to the hull with which the keel is rotatably connected to the hull about the longitudinal axis of the ship.
55
By rotating the keel with respect to the hull, it becomes possible to keep the hull itself substantially in a constant orientation, independent of, for example, the wind loads to which a ship 5 can be subjected. The tilting of the crew can be avoided with this. Preferably, only the keel is rotatable relative to the hull and the ship's sword, together with the hull, remains upright. This achieves that the sailing properties of the ship further improve because the so-called drift of the ship, irrespective of the load on the ship and its skew, is prevented as far as possible by good utilization of the effect of the sword.
In a further preferred embodiment, the coupling member is provided with a band-shaped member along the circumference of the hull, viewed in cross-section thereof, and a sleeve or housing in which the band can move for the purpose of rotating the keel construction relative to the hull. The belt can here for instance be embodied as a steel belt or bracket which can be arranged both on the inside and on the outside of the hull. For the purpose of movement in the housing, the belt is provided with a guide, such as for instance a number of rollers. Depending on the choice of shape and material, the rollers 25 are attached to the inside or outside of the belt.
If desired, the conductive members can also be fixed to the housing.
In a further preferred embodiment, the keel construction is provided with a fixing member for fixing the keel and / or mast construction with respect to the hull.
With such a construction it is achieved that the belt can rotate relative to the hull and, if desired, the keel and mast construction can be fixed relative to the hull by means of, for example, a pin construction. In this way it is achieved that maneuvers in a harbor, lock and the like can be carried out well and furthermore has the advantage that if desired, it is also possible to sail in the same way as with known ships.
The present invention furthermore relates to a method for keeping the open side of a hull of a ship substantially horizontal, comprising the steps of: - uncoupling a keel construction with a possible mast construction of the hull from a neutral position; - rotating the keel with the possible mast construction relative to the hull as a result of an applied load on the ship to an equilibrium position; and - rotating back to the neutral position when the applied load is lost.
By means of the method it is achieved that persons on board the ship remain substantially upright independently of, for example, wind loads applied to the ship.
The invention is now elucidated on the basis of a number of examples, wherein reference is made to the accompanying drawings, in which:

Figure 1 shows a sailboat 2 provided with a hull 4 with a keel 6 and a rudder 8. Furthermore, sailboat 2 is provided with a mast 10 that is of a flexible material. Both on starboard and port side there are two stays 12. These are interconnected by means of a lattice construction 14. The stay as shown has a division 16 approximately halfway along its length. At the bottom one rack 12 is connected to the body 4 by means of a hinge 18 and the other is releasably connected to the body 4 by means of a coupling 20. rotate from each other. In the embodiment shown, a connection 23 is provided at the level of hinges 22 between the two stays on either side of the ship. The stays 12 come together in the top 24 of the entire mast construction. The mast 10 is connected at the bottom with mounting 26 placed on connection 28 which connects the undersides of the stays 12 with each other. Furthermore, the sailing boat 2 is provided with a mainsail 30 and jib 32 both provided with the associated structural parts. A so-called roller cam can be used for this. The mainsail 30 can also be provided in a similar manner.
Om instroom van water in het schip te vermijden is de koker 40 waterdicht verbonden met de 5 romp 4.The keel 6 is connected to a jacket or band 42 which is rotatably mounted in a sleeve or housing 40. In the embodiment shown, this sleeve 40 is arranged on the inside of the hull. The belt 42 is provided with guide rollers 44 for guiding belt 42 in the housing 40. The belt 42 is attached at both ends to the stays 12 by means of mounting 48. This mounting 48 also serves as a blocking member for limiting the movement of the belt 42 relative to the hull 4. The keel 6 is attached to the belt 42. For this purpose, an opening has been left on the underside of the sleeve 40 through which the keel 6 can rotate along with the belt 42 about the hull 4 of the ship 2. The size of the 8 recess is adjusted to the maximum rotation determined by the blockages 48. Through this recess, inflow of water can take place in duct 40. To prevent inflow of water into the ship, the duct 40 is watertightly connected to the hull 4.
Figure 2A shows a sailboat 2 without sails in which the mast 10 is uncoupled and the entire mast construction is ironed by rotation of the stays 12 by means of hinge 18. In the illustrated embodiment the stay 12 consists of a lower part 12a and upper part 12b which rotate relative to each other by means of hinges 22. Figure 2B shows the ironed embodiment of the sailing boat 2. Here is clearly visible the frame construction that can serve as support for for instance a tent and also that the ironed mast construction can remain entirely within the hull 4 of the sailing boat 2 if desired.
Figure 3 shows a detail of the sailboat 2 of Figure 1 from one end of band 42. The band 42 is connected to the rigging 12 by means of connection 48, whereby the entire mast construction is connected to keel 6. The band 42 can rotate about the longitudinal axis of the ship 2 with respect to the hull 4 by means of sleeve 40. Due to this rotation by means of belt 42, the keel 6 and mast construction can hang obliquely in the same way as in a known sailboat, while the hull 4 maintains its orientation. Extra ballast can be used for the latter (not shown). In this case, ballast in the form of, for example, batteries can be provided with the additional advantage that an energy source is present on board the sailboat 2. In the embodiment shown, the belt 42 is provided on the outside with a guide comprising rollers 44 which rotate about axis 47 and are connected by means of attachment 9 46 to belt 42. The rollers 44 run over a side of the sleeve 40 which is previously used for this purpose. tread acts.
By means of a fixation construction (not shown) the mast construction can be fixed with the keel 6 relative to the hull 4.
The present invention is by no means limited to the preferred embodiments described above; the rights sought, within the scope of which many modifications are conceivable, are determined by the following claims.
