Abstract

A sputtering target containing a Co-containing alloy and boron and/or an oxide of boron, wherein the amount of metal boron in boron oxide (B2O3) that dissolves into water is 7000 ?g/m2 or less. The present invention aims to provide a sputtering target which is capable of suppressing the generation of particles caused by the elution of B2O3 during sputtering and is suitable for forming magnetic recording films.
