A PROCESS FOR PREPARING A 8-CHLOROQUINOLONE DERIVATIVE REPRESENTED BY FORMULA (II):(FORMULA 1)WHEREIN X REPRESENTS A HALOGEN ATOM; R1 REPRESENTS A HYDROGEN ATOM, AN ALKYL GROUP HAVING FROM 1 TO 6 CARBON ATOMS OR A PHENYLALKYL GROUP WHICH MAY HAVE A NITRO GROUP, A CHLORINE ATOM OR AN ALKOXYL GROUP ON THE PHENYL MOIETY THEREOF; AND R2 REPRESENTS A 4- TO 8-MEMBERED SATURATED HETEROCYCLIC GROUP CONTAINING ONE OR TWO NITROGEN ATOMS AS A RING MEMBER, SAID HETEROCYCLIC GROUP MAY FURTHER CONTAIN AN OXYGEN ATOM OR A SULFUR ATOM AS A RING MEMBER AND MAY HAVE ONE OR MORE SUBSTITUENTS SELECTED FROM THE GROUP CONSISTING OF AN AMINO GROUP, A MONO- OR DIALKYLAMINO GROUP HAVING FROM 1 TO 6 CARBON ATOMS IN ITS ALKYL MOIETY, AN ALKYLCARBONYLAMINO GROUP HAVING FROM 2 TO 7 CARBON ATOMS, AN ALKYLOXYCARBONYLAMINO GROUP HAVING FROM 2 TO 7 CARBON ATOMS, A HALOGENOALKYLCARBONYL GROUP HAVING FROM 2 TO 7 CARBON ATOMS, A HALOGENOALKYLOXYCARBONYLAMINO GROUP HAVING FROM 2 TO 7 CARBON ATOMS, A PHENYLALKYLAXYCARBONYLAMINO GROUP WHICH MAY HAVE A NITRO GROUP OR A CHLORINE ATOM ON THE PHENYL MOIETY THEREOF, AN ALKYL GROUP HAVING FROM 1 TO 6 CARBON ATOMS, AN ALKYLENE GROUP HAVING FROM 2 TO 6 CARBON ATOMS WHICH IS TAKEN TOGETHER WITH A CARBON ATOM CONSTITUTING THE HETEROCYCLIC GROUP TO FORM A SPIRO RING, A HALOGEN ATOM, AND AN ALKOXY GROUP HAVING FROM 1 TO 6 CARBON ATOMS, COMPRISING REACTING A QUINOLONE COMPOUND REPRESENTED BY FORMULA (I):(FORMULA 2)WHEREIN X, R1, AND R2 ARE AS DEFINED ABOVE, WITH A CHLORINATING AGENT.
