CONSTITUTION:An 8-position-nonsubstituted quinolone carboxylic acid derivative expressed by formula I (R and R<1> represent H or lower alkyl; R<2> represents H or amino-protecting group or R<1> and R<2> together represents amino-protecting group; R<3> represents H or lower alkyl; n is 0 or 1) [example; 7-(3-acetamide-1- pyrrolidinyl)-1-cyclopropyl-6-fluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-3-quinoline carboxylic acid] is reacted with a chlorinating agent (preferably sulfuryl chloride), and subjected to deprotection and/or hydrolysis, as necessary, to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula II.
