Abstract
Un conjunto de conexión de tubería y un método para unir dos tramos de tubería de acero en el campo, sin necesidad de soldar la conexión, incluye un par de miembros tubulares teniendo ambos superficies exterior e inferior cilíndricas que se conforman esencialmente a las superficies exterior e interior de los tramos de tubería de acero. En un extremo de los miembros tubulares se forma un conector macho. El conector macho tiene una pluralidad de rebordes anulares planos y ahusados y superficies anulares planas formadas en el mismo. En un extremo del otro miembro tubular se forma un conector hembra. El conector hembra tiene una pluralidad de rebordes anulares planos y superficies ahusadas y planas formadas en el mismo. Al emplear los miembros tubulares para conectar los dos tramos de tubería de acero, los extremos de los miembros opuestos a los conectores macho y hembra se sueldan primero en los extremos opuestos de la tubería de acero. El conector macho luego se ajusta a presión dentro del conector hembra para conectar los dos tramos de tubería de acero juntos sin requerir la soldadura de los dos tramos de tubería uno en el otro. El aparato y método permite que los conectores sean soldados en los extremos opuestos de los tramos de tubería de acero en un taller de soldadura en donde las operaciones de soldadura se llevan a cabo muy eficientemente. Los tramos de tubería de acero con los conectores de la invención fijados luego pueden transportarse a un sitio de excavación tendido de tubería exento de trincheras en donde se ajustan a presión juntos en secuencia, sin la necesidad de soldarse en el sitio del tendido de tubería.
