Abstract

Los aceites pesados pueden someterse a hidrotratamiento en presencia de un soporte de alumina porosa, metales antifricción de los Grupos VIII y VI y VI-B y, optativamente, fósforo, con el catalizador teniendo: una extensión superficial total de 165 a 230 m2/g, un volumen total de los poros de 0.5 a 0.8 mm3/g, y una distribución del diámetro de los poros tal que menos de aproximadamente el 5 del volumen total de los poros esté presente en forma de microporos primarios de diámetro menor a 80A, y estando presentes microporos secundarios de - 20A, de entre un modo de poros de 100 a 135A, en cantidad de , cuando menos, el 65, aproximadamente, del volumen de microporos, comprendiendo poros con diámetro menor de 250A, y del 22 al 29 del volumen total de poros estando presente en forma de macroporos de diámetro mayor de 250A. El proceso del presente invento es particularmente efectivo en cuanto a alcanzar los niveles deseados de hidrodesmetalación , hidrosulfuración, hidrofisuración e hidrocraqueo, de asfaltenos de la fracción de productos residuales de petróleo hidrotratados/hidrofisurados, que tienen un punto de ebullición superior a 1000ºF (537.78ªC).
