Abstract

Se describe un método para reducir contaminantes en la producción de un producto glicólico bioderivado de la hidrogenólisis de polioles. El método implica someter una mezcla acuosa de productos poliólicos (procedente de la conversión por hidrogenólisis de una materia prima de carbohidratos derivada biológicamente) a cromatografía de exclusión iónica para separar y reducir las impurezas de una fracción eluyente que contiene un producto deseado, y destilar la fracción eluyente para obtener el producto deseado (p. ej., propilenglicol o etilenglicol). La mezcla de productos de reacción se puede introducir en un sistema continuo de cromatografía de exclusión iónica para reducir las impurezas y producir, con un rendimiento elevado, un producto glicólico acabado y comercialmente aceptable.
