Abstract

La presente invención se refiere a un método para efectuar intercambio de calor entre flujos de aire en contracorriente en un intercambiador de calor evaporativo, dicho intercambiador de calor incluyendo un núcleo de intercambio de calor que comprende una pluralidad de pasajes húmedos y secos alternantes, cada pasaje comprendiendo superficies corrugadas opuestas con corrugaciones de dichas superficies corrugadas opuestas estando en ángulos que se intersectan, las superficies corrugadas opuestas de cada pasaje húmedo incluyendo un material humedecible con agua adaptado para retener agua y transferir vapor de agua desde el material humedecible hacia aire que fluye a lo largo de cada pasaje húmedo respectivo; las superficies corrugadas de cada pasaje seco siendo resistentes al vapor y enfriadas conforme el vapor de agua se transfiere desde el material humedecible hacia el aire que fluye a lo largo de cada pasaje húmedo adyacente, y ocasionando que una porción del flujo de aire que sale de los pasajes secos sea regresada a los pasajes húmedos en contraflujo al flujo de aire en los pasajes secos, dicho método está caracterizado porque comprende los pasos de dirigir los flujos de aire en contracorriente en los pasajes húmedos y secos en una dirección substancialmente horizontal; suministrar agua desde arriba del núcleo al material humedecible de los pasajes húmedos en un patrón de flujo descendente y evitar que el agua entre y descienda de los pasajes secos.
